Thanks for your reply. I realize I worded my question very poorly- the 8HP70 is the same for both the diesel and petrol versions, correct?

With regards to the coding, do you know how it 'works'? It seems like the OP 'coded' in the diesel version of the vehicle, despite having a petrol engine?

No worries. We don't even get the option for 8HP70 for petrol (maybe the M cars with auto?). Not sure about the coding though. I know the DME talks to the transmission to throttle power when torque reaches limits, etc. The petrol DME might "speak a different language" than diesel to the transmission. Not sure....
