You asked for ideas/questions and generally topics you can include in the future. One question which I am interested in and comes up regularly, mainly in the European forums and groups is whether there is a build quality difference (relevant to tuning and its sustainability and engine reliability) between the European-built and American-built B58s? Is there data which suggests any difference or vice versa - which shows more or less equal reliability? One source of data could be comparison of successful and reliable projects on both sides of the ocean or vice versa - higher failure rate on either. I think this question is very relevant since the B58 is otherwise generalized as a single product on a number of platforms. Just a suggestion.

There are actually 2 aspects of this (now that you say it):
1. Configuration differences and their effect on engine performance and tuning sustainability. Examples: - Hot- vs. Cold- climate package - some configurations have an additional cooler behind the fog lights. Some configurations have the air intake open in the engine bay, others have it connected to the front bumper sucking air straight from there... etc. 2. Manufacturing quality (this was what I was primarily thinking of above). I have seen claims in both directions - e.g. that the American- built BMW engines are better built, stricter quality control (due to the infamous American legal cases) and last longer if properly maintained, but also that the American- built BMW engines do 100 000 miles before being totalled... Most of those are urban legends, but it would be interesting to look critically at this by comparing (un)successful tunes on both sides of the ocean. I am generally not a fan of generalisations. There are so many factors, that before we can say how much power and torque an engine or gearbox can hold, we must look at at least some of the obvious variables - environmental conditions (climate), built-quality, driving-style, wear and tear, etc. And that, I believe, is a good topic for discussion in future videos...

I think this is a good topic. Also, take into consideration the different platforms that the B58 is in. As stated in topic 1. Some B58 intake set ups are different and it would be interesting to see what the differences are and how it affects performance. |

Could be. In such case may be worth to state that, backed up by examples for successful sustainable tunings from both regions.
Otherwise I, like many others, ask myself whether and to what extent the content is applicable to us, European B58 owners, given all the rumoured quality + factual configuration differences. Narrow down the generalisation is my recommendation. Look at the variables, even if then considered of no effect. B58 in Canada will perform very differently from one in Egypt. That's for sure. Better to take the factors into account when utilising the safety margins of the engine, which is what tuning is all about.
