335i clutch durability
How much torque can the stock clutch handle? Has anyone had it slip with aggressive driving or racing? Who makes aftermarket clutches for the f30? I didn't find a lot of HD clutch options for even the e9x 335i. Sachs makes an organic full faced disc (probably not a lot different than stock) that handles 540 NM and also a solid 4 puck clutch for the e90, but nothing in between. I have a kevlar full face / puck hybrid (with sprung hub) on my other car and it is very streetable but with a lot of bite too. Will a clutch from an e9x fit the f30?
And no I'm not planning on blowing the clutch in my brand new $60k car, just wondering how well the stock clutch can take the abuse that I will inflict on my $60k car. |

I'm not tracking any kind of aftermarket parts that would give you that kind of power for the F30 335i. I don’t think the demand exists for a 335i HD clutch.
I don’t know how helpful this is but my 02 wrx didn't really NEED an HD clutch until I was around 300 awhp, that’s about a 100 whp gain from stock. |

On e90 cars, especially with the twin turbo, people are running 11 second quarter miles. I can't believe the stock clutch would hold up to that sort of abuse. So you got me thinking and I checked drag-times for some info.
Vishnu's (the guy who makes the proceed) car ran a 10.8. Apparently it has a spec stage 2+. This is the same clutch I have for my other car. It is a really good clutch, but actually completely streetable. It is amazing this clutch can run a 10.8 and hold up to launching on Hoosier slicks. Spec's website says it first up to 2010 models. Anyone know what would be required, if anything, to fit this on an f30? The spec stage 1 (stockish) says its good for 350 lb-ft. I don't think the stock clutch would be rated for much more than this, although it may hold it for a while. They have up to a stage 5 for 670 ft-lbs. |

Now, if you're planning on launching your car every day, you might have to think about getting a replacement clutch.

Sure, that may be true. Or they may rate it low so you buy the higher end clutches, or maybe they are just conservative ratings.
I had an exedy stage 1 in my old 240sx with a skyline engine. It was only supposed to hold 255. The stock clutch should have held much more than that. I was pretty abusive and it never showed signs of failing. It also depends how well the f30 hooks up on the 255 tires and the e-diff. |
