I have always liked the sliding arm rests on the F80 and the carbon fiber of the M performance sliding arm rest. However, as stated before, I am not a fan of Alacantara, so I decided to make my own version of the M performance Leather sliding arm rest. I was fortunate to find a great condition Merino leather arm rest on the F80 side of the board. Once I got it, I figured out how to get the back piece off and the rest is history...I can't wait to install it tomorrow or Friday...I think it looks great and the carbon fiber peaking out behind the arm rest sets it off great! Will post installed pics when I get them.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1288920 It was just like the DIY. Just as the DIY says...make sure when putting the final portion of the spring back in place, the arm rest is open...makes it super easy! The hardest part was actually reading the DIY instead of looking at just pictures....after I struggled early, I read it this time and made it easy. When installing the new arm rest, make sure the sprockets line up to the gears or it will be hard to get in. I even popped off the gear on the console...popped it back in place and got it installed.

Installed pictures...I think it looks awesome. My favorite is the one with the arm rest pushed all the way back and just a hint of CF is showing!

I think this picture shows the true depth of real carbon fiber....never get this depth with vinyl...no matter if it is 3D, 4D or whatever they are pushing these days!

So overcast day and the pictures are washed out, but you get the idea. Estoril Blue accent stripe on the interior trim. I painted the stripe EBII and clear coated it, so it would not be matte like it comes OEM. Just a small thing, but I like it better than the matte blue. Here are a couple of pics of the finished interior. Will get better pictures later this weekend or early next week...

Thanks, I appreciate it. I hadn't thought about the IDrive trim...I will look into it. I am not convinced on the EBII SW trim yet. I am working on the SW trim surround in CF now, that should make it better. I am used to the SW trim on my e90 being in CF, so it is taking some time to get used to it. I love everything else...especially the glossy EBII on the dash trim.

Thanks...the drivers vent trim has tabs and you can remove them. The main dash trim piece has about 15 plastic welds on the back of the trim. They have to be removed then re-welded. If the welds aren't removed properly, the piece won't go back together...

Wow looks amazing. where did you get the trim parts? Liquid car freshener ruined the blue part of my trim and i'm trying to get a replacement. would be cheaper than to repair i assume.

What did the liquid car freshener do to the trim?

If you use e.g. Cockpit Spray from Sonax or an equal kind of "refresher", the ingredients make the shine after certain use matte and they are very agressive to some surfaces. Once I brought my VW golf with a touch screen radio to a body shop to make the car shiny from in- and outside and they'd cleaned the touchscreen with the spray...needless to say, the caused stripes werent removable and the glueing film afterwards were never entirely gone. I complained about that together with a letter from VW not to use such solvents for this work and they had to buy me a substitute. End of the story, since that day Im done with Cockpit spray.
