Well, that’s very confusing.

A EU German license plate (obviously fake) on a F30 with F80 bumpers, fenders, hood, mirrors and paddles, while RHD in what appears to be Malaysia which is LHD.

f80clone would be impressed.

Remote start must be a bitch to retrofit Rejected by so many shops only to see this

Guess I'll be the first sucker at $500 -> http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=961845 (scratch that, too much research on this to get somewhere for the moment)

Primary annoyance is I wouldn't be able to reach in my pocket and hit the lock button without looking at the fob this is critical to being able to walk away and the car locks behind you with maximum cool factor engaged.

Why anyone would want to carry around a mobile phone sized key is beyond me.
I find the current normal f30 key fob way too big already.

Would be shocked otherwise.
Thanks. FFS I copied the wrong thread link I swear I saw one out there where one person did it successfully to an F30 but at this point it doesn't even matter because I'm also thinking this is no plug and play setup.

Didn’t find that appealing at all, so the key is now bigger and the lock unlock button tucked away ?

$500 might not get you in door.

Not sure if language barrier or he’s just reluctant to talk.

IK6SPEED Smart move and thanks for posting this....huge language barrier here too; damn!

To others that detest this idea; we get it...it's huge and too bulky to many but some DO like the concept and would like to proceed. I for one would make room for this key if it added remote start. I've definitely gotten used to NOT having remote start over the past few years but it would also be nice to have a"conditioned" car when getting in as it used to be a nice treat, especially when temps were in the EXTREMES.

If this were guaranteed to add remote start and everything that was in the video, I'd be in at a grand.

It’s like 4AM in Malaysia now and he went radio silent (or most likely asleep).

Not sure it’s worth a grand......and I still am confused where the SIM card comes into play.

Something seems off. If he has 2012 car, it’s CIC. I suspect that 2G still works in Malaysia, but I have a disconnect on how that is relevant for the key to work with the car.

It does all add up but I too haven't the faintest idea as to how he integrated it unless he retrofitted his car too. (new combox?) A grand would be pushing it due to the benefits we can take from it but the second I saw that car start using the fob, it sparked my interest. It might "just work" with NBT but I have serious doubts already as this would've been all over the internet similar to the cluster. (at least one would think this to be the case)

The key is a cell phone. It's communicating with the car on the cell network rather than directly to the car. Is there anything it's doing other than remote start that the ConnectedDrive app and a smart phone won't? If you look at the top of the display it has a signal bar, communicating icon, and battery left.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's running android of some kind.

As 2G still active in Malaysia he would not need new combox....until they pull the plug on the service.

If BMW used TMobile instead of ATT, CIC Combox would still work now.

That was my thought as well, But he says there is no SIM in the key fob....so that’s where I have a disconnect.

I think I'd have fun with it for a week. At the end of the day, though, actually driving the car is where I'd want most of my enjoyment to come from. $1k that doesn't change or enhance the driving experience isn't worth it for me.

Without the remote start, that's where I'm at. Cool toy but it'll end quickly without a usable feature.

The cluster was another story and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I can also appreciate those that don't like it because for a while there, I was sticking with my old school ways and wanted pure analog myself!

This "thread topic" is yet another reason why I own a BMW....mods come up all the time!

You got a new cluster? Pics?

That I can understand because you can enjoy it while you drive!
