I experience an audible whine sound that occurs only when i do repeated high load accelerations. This happened recently when i was bedding in my new pads.

Has anyone experienced this issue? If so what was the problem? The dealer could not replicate my issue, so they stole my money for diagnosis and sent me on my way. Thank you in advance.

46k miles, you think a transmission fluid service would help the issue? A shop i talked to that specializes in BMW and he said it may be a failing stator in the torque converter.

likley not fluid, are you sure its not your differential, do you use launch control alot? if you use launch control often it could be a premature sign of failure. I would take it to a second mechanic, BMW specialist, to get a second opinion. see if they come to the same conclusion as the first.

previous owner may have launched it frequently. the car also has 275 width tires, so he probably launched it plenty. Is differential more likely to fail compared to the transmission?

History on the car? It has low miles, oversized tires from previous owner, I guess no CPO warranty then because the dealer is only supposed to CPO cars in stock condition.

Have you seen the service history on the car?

I'm assuming no whine when you turn (wheel bearings whine when turning)?

Noise at the rear (Differential)?

I would get a second opinion from another dealer or a reputable transmission shop and try to record the sound. I would also look for tampering in the engine bay which might indicate a tune and therefor an abused engine.

If the vehicle has a CPO warranty, and you can confirm the vehicle had a tune. I would demand a refund. You could also inform BMWNA that the dealer certified a non-stock car.

This could just be another case where a dealer unloads an abused vehicle for a "good customer".

I bought the car with 36,000 miles. perfect service history with every service record in the glove box. owner before me took care of the car service wise. i am led to believe it may be differential. i will post a few pictures of the differential, one of them i clean a section off. car had warranty which expired 2 weeks ago. BMW could not find the issue.

No idea, sold the car because I didn't want to deal with it. A shop I took it to said it could be the stator going bad. I never checked the transmission fluid level or really diagnosed it.

My guess is low transmission fluid. I've had that whine when the transmission fluid was low. Transmission eventually failed and was replaced under extended warranty.
