Good source for Reversing Camera Retrofit hardware?
Hi All,
Anyone have a recomendation for a reliable source of the retrofit hardware to install the reversing camera in My F31? The 'bay seems to be unusally light on complete kits at the moment . . . TIA John

I've recently fitted this kit to my F36, I also fitted the same kit on my previous F30. The kit is all brand new and all OEM. One thing to note is that the harness and camera cable are from a F10 so the harness needs a little bit of modification and you'll need to mount the control unit in the boot, there's a perfect place above the battery, it usually gets installed under the dash but it makes no difference.

Do you have a breakdown of what needs to be chnaged on the harness? I know the 5m HSD cables just don't exist - so boot mounting the box is fine with me...
Thanks.

Hi John, there's not that much to it really, I stripped the fabric tape off the harness so I could pull the power supply cable back and shorten it as it needs to be connected to the fuse box in the boot, I also shortened the ground cable and connected that to a ground point behind the boot side panel. There's also a ground point on the HSD cable, it reaches one of the car ground points ok in F30 but I had to run a separate cable from that down to a ground point on my F36, it was no problem though. I also purchased 2x pins with crimped tails from BMW to connect the cables to the FEM. I purchased some automotive fabric tape to re-wrap everything, it looks totally stock. The last thing is to code the car to get everything talking.

Yeah biggest pain for me on F36 was getting the HSD cable from the roof lining down to the rear pillar and into the boot, was ok though. I was a bit worried about taking the tailgate trim off but that turned out to be straightforward enough.

From Emtronica? Are they hard to install?

if it's an F30 then it's about 3 hours of labour, F31 is a pain in the ass and is 5hrs

Done this myself, it's not that difficult at all (F30)
One thing I will say is the customer service from Emtronika was exceptional. They sent me an incorrect switch mechanism housing and had to send me a replacement one, they were superb to deal with. |

Yep, have only had excellent service from Emtronika as well and they deliver very quickly. Don't forget to ask for a new boot release handle with the integrated camera mount if you order a kit, they supplied it FOC.

I emailed them about the OEM kit and they said that they also recommend the cheaper non oem kit which is easier to fit, anyone used it? If so whats the difference between this and oem?

At a much cheaper price than OEM, why would you not? The installation kit is the same BTW, i.e. the control unit is in the boot, not behind the dash. Hope this helps.
