'17 340i xDrive Roadmap

Hey guys, I got bit by something the other night. So far the only side effect is the overwhelming urge to blow cash on my car that I could use for, idk, food/water/shelter/etc.

Here's the roadmap in chronological order I've drafted for blowing said income. Feedback is appreciated. For reference I have the 2017 340i xDrive with 6MT and MPPSK.

- BMS Billet intake
- Catted DP (either DS-1 5" or the ER 4.5")
- Possible JB4 over the top of it all
- Maybe...MAYBE WMI after all is said and done

Mostly I need to hear pros and cons for the DP. Thanks in advance!

Do JB4 first, then downpipe, then intake, then every other mod you want to do.

Intake doesn't really give you a noticeable gain and the induction noise will not be loud until you are tuned and pushing more boost.

Pros of downpipe:

- Faster turbo spool and increased throttle response
- Louder turbo spool
- Slightly louder exhaust note and burbles (much louder on WOT)
- Close to 15-20whp gains with catted

Cons of downpipe:

- Risk of CEL (easy fixes available so this is a moot point)
- Slight gas smell

Gas smell is really not bad at all, especially with a catted dp.

I already have the MPPSK remap and exhaust which is why I was inclined to do the JB4 last. As far as the DP go, I'm looking for a comparison between those two different ones. I'm thinking the extra .5" between them might be nonconsequesential.

The .5 doesn't really matter but isn't the CG cheaper?

If you're deciding between downpipes, I'd go with the CG. I haven't heard of any CEL lights and it's also the widest DP.

Also, I wouldn't recommend JB4 first as he's MPPSK, and likely closer to the ubiquitous "fuel limit/cap". The intake/DP might add another 15-25. The other argument is that he's not getting maximum gains for the intake/DP w/o JB4.

I dyno'd 344hp/355 torque, then 333hp/375 torque with just CG DP, intake, and catback exhaust. So there are some decent gains to be made even w/o a tune.

He didn't make it clear that he had MPPSK so it changes things a little. To OP, you could also look at JB+

I wonder if instead of raising the fuel cap you could spoof it into thinking it's delivering less than it is. Guess it doesn't matter. I'm not trying to make my daily insufferable.

If you plan on going meth eventually, go catless. If not then the CG will be fine

I have MPPSK and the first thing I did was JB4. It's the smartest thing to do because you can start logging and learn how the car behaves and reacts to different things. I'm also partial to the JB4 because I put 120,000 miles on my last one with my N54.

Forget the JB+ on the MPPSK. It WILL drive worse, and without logging you won't understand why.

I also have a BMS intake and meth kit, but that came after many months of logging and learning how this engine worked.

Don't you guys worry about the heat with that short intake? I dunno if I'd want that on my _turbo car in the summer ... definitely not for a track day. So hot.

I do want the turbo spooling induction noise though. I can't hear this thing at all. I'm really tempted to do the classic ricer swiss cheese airbox mod and go drill a couple holes. I won't though .. but I really want to.

Terry already proved this is not the case with N54 engines. The "ending" temp was actually a few degrees cooler with the intake vs the stock airbox.

I just ordered my JB4. I'll make an appointment with the dyno once it comes in and provide data
