Shawn,

Apologies for the lengthy post. Would like to kindly ask for guidance on how to BEST clean up error codes (see below) after successful retrofits of (1) a rearview mirror and (2) ConnectedDrive (3) iController no-touch. The good thing is that I know why every one of the error codes are there.

Background: May 2012 manufacture date, F30, 328i, CIC HU w/6-pin LVDS with no Nav only 6NH retrofitted to NBT HU w/Nav/Voice (609) using emulator.

1. Mirror error codes: my car had a "no-feature" rear view mirror and fixed side-mirrors. Replaced with rear view mirror that has Elelctro-chromatic/Alarm/Garage remote//Compass/FLA (with what looks like "High Beam Assist" camera added on). VO coded all ECUs individually with 319 (Garage remote), 430 (inside/outside mirror w/auto-dip), 431 (inside mirror w/auto-dip).

The old mirror setup had a rain-sensor. I used the power/ground/LIN wires from the rain-sensor with new mirror, worked fine. The garage remote works OK on the new mirror. But had to leave the Alarm, and the two CAN-lines for Head-Light Assist unconnected since I do not have either alarm nor head-light assist and do not plan on adding the hardware.

See the mirror related error codes (804471, D90D06, D90D0A, D90D0D, D90D25) . I guess I should remove from VO the 430 FA (side-mirrors/inside mirror auto-dip) which should take care of 804471, D90D06, D90D0A, D90D0D. As far as D90D25, I FDL coded the mirror FEM_01 > PfInternalMirror 3120 > PF_INMI_LIN_VAR = ISP_g_EC_DWA_UGDO_COMPASS_US. So FEM is probably looking for the Alarm circuit and the two CAN lines for the Head-Light Assist. Should I just separate and remove the head-light assist camera hardware? Not a worthwhile feature here in the USA. Or how should I FDL code out the Head-light Assist and Alarm features? Or should I just take out VO codes 430 and 431 entirely and add back only these via FDL coding?:

FEM_BODY;
FEM_01 > PfInternalMirror 3120 > ISP_EC = aktiv
FEM_01 > PfInternalMirror 3120 > ISP_KOMPASS = nicht_aktiv
FEM_01 > PfInternalMirror 3120 > LIN_ISP_VERBAUT = aktiv
FEM_01 > PfInternalMirror 3120 > PF_INMI_LIN_VAR = ISP_g_EC + UGDO + ??? + ???? (proper value)

Error code D90D25 is the wrong configuration for my mirror in PF_INMI_LIN_VAR = ISP_g_+????. But I do not see an option for EC, UGDO, COMPASS combination. Should I calculate my own HEX value for this line?! How? If I use one of the existing options like EC, UDGO, COMPASS, DWA, FLA I think will get errors codes for not having Alarm hardware and Head-Light Assist hardware (except the mirror-mounted camera).

2. The ConnectedDrive error D916C3 is because I do not have any "SOS" equipment which was enabled by default when I VO coded 6NR BMW ConnectedDrive. I already FDL coded where the "SOS function does not work" message does not show up under the "Vehicle Status" menu on the CID screen.

KOMBI => ST_ECAL_ALIVE = nicht_aktiv
KOMBI => ST_ECAL_TIMEOUT = nicht_aktiv

But a D916C3 error in ISTA+ is still there, I think because the SOS hardware is not there.

3. The last error code "S 0393" is because ZBE was my 5-button iController and the new (ZBE2?) iController no-touch needs to be added in the VCM. I came across a process that mentioned ZBE3 (touch) and ZBE2: "I had to go to the SVT editor and delete ZBE2 and read my SVT again and ZBE3 showed up. After that, I saved the current SVT and wrote it to my SVT target so now HU_NBT, ZBE3 and TBX are all part of my target when I read it. After that, you just activate the modified FA and select CAFD for SWE for both TBX and ZBE3 and VO code them. "

I have never made any of these retrofits myself. Beyond clearing the fault codes with E-Sys Transmitter, I don't know anything else to do:

Click "External Application"
Double-click "Transmitter"
Scroll to the bottom and click "14 FF FF FF,31 01 0F 06,31 01 40 00 00,31 01 40 00 05,31 01 40 00 01;Clear all DTCs (clear DTC,clear Infospeicher,ZFS – DM_Lock,clear ZFS – DM_Clear,ZFS – DM_Unlock)"
Click Connect
Click Send

Thank you very much, Shawn, will try that. I am getting close to having all the retrofits completed...is there a way to take a snapshot and save all my current codings (VO and FDL) and able to restore them later to the same state? For example, I may need to recode the car with 430 FA removed from FEM, etc ECUs...that will reset many if not all my changed FDL codes to default. Any way to restore the FDL coding differences to before the 430 removal?

Once you have ECU Coded as you like, Read COding Data from ECU CAFD, and then go to then got to C:\Data\CAFm folder, and locate corresponding CAFD .ncd file, and backup to different location. .ncd file can be restored using "New FDL" function.

Managed to get rid of some of the codes. What's left are 3 "informational" errors due to Shift-paddle/Alarm/SOS/ hardware not present. No worries.

But of concern are the last 3 codes, all of them due to replacing ZBE (5-button controller) with a donor ZBE2 (7-button no-touch controller) and adding a donor TBX (touch module). Based on my research, the ZBE2 (CON) has to be coded to my car as replacement module. And TBX needs to be added and coded as a new module. Zeitkriterium is 0713 for both. ZBE2's CAFD has an error when coding with FA. And TBX does not have a CAFD.

Do I need to "detect CAF for SWE"? How? Do I need to inject a good CAFD in the ZBE2? How do I add a CAFD to the TBX?

I looked at some links on ECU flashing, but I think that's steps above CAFD injecting and really necessary?

Would this be the first thing to try for the ZBE2 (using E-sys 3.27.1.)?:

- Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM) => Left-Click on ZBE2 => Click on "Detect CAF for SWE" => Select the CAFD from latest I-Level shown (bottom) => Select OK => Right-Click on ZBE2 (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select CODE.

This is only needed if ECU has no CAFD. If ECU has CAFD, and VO Coding fails, FA is not right in some way (Option Codes, or Build Date).

Thank you, Shawn! Managed to eliminate the Controller and Touch ECU error codes. Had to use Esys 3.3.1 instead of 3.27 which enabled the greyed-out "Detect CAF for SWE". Used ZeitKriterium 0714 for both and also injected the latest CAFD files for both ECUs.

The remaining 2 out of 3 error codes are because of CAN-lines going to non-existing hardware which were part of a larger system being enabled (SOS button: added -> BMW Live/Connected Drive; Paddle-Shifter: 205 -> 2TB) Set this already for the non-existing paddle-shifters, but no prize. Either way, not a critical error. FEM_BODY => PADDLES_VERBAUT = nicht aktiv

The last one: I need to look into the DEM->AHM error code because one of my keys stopped working remotely about two months ago and can only start the car with that key by placing it against the steering column. Tried re-syncing various ways. Will check ISTA+ if the key was dropped from the key-priority list, or may be intermittent diversity antenna modules/connections...
