F31 Journal #2: 2019 330i
I recently got rid of my 2015 F31 328d (one pic below for good measure) and replaced it with a 2019 F31 330i in Mineral Gray. I use my car for work and needed something newer for specific company requirements. I tried a 2020 Volvo V60 R-Design as I love the interior and exterior appearance but I didn’t jive with it. The car was so detached with numb steering (more so than the F3x chassis) and the brakes were terrible for such a large car. Interior was absolutely fantastic but not enough to cover the poor driveability when compared to my old F31.
Found this F31 330i at a low-rent dealership in NH, so I flew up to grab it before Christmas and drove it home to SC after visiting family in NH. When compared to my old F31, this new one is very poorly optioned (base audio, no technology package, no HUD, no cold-weather package, etc) but was in very good shape with low miles (14,900). That being said, I like the B48 far more than the N47 as far as power output. No pics from my journey back to SC, but one from shortly after I got home Plans are for similar suspension from my previous F31 as it worked well with lots of road miles and manufacturing plant sites Picture of my old white F31 for reference Max Last edited by clemsonf31; 11-21-2022 at 05:30 PM.. |

As soon as I got home, I installed Thule Aeroblade bars with my Kuat Trio roof trays as well as black kidney grills. Removed badges from trunklid in prep for detail work. Scheduled a paint correction and ceramic coating from Carisma Detailing locally in Simpsonville, SC. To those in upstate SC and NC, I would recommend Carisma as they did a phenomenal job and their attention to detail is unparalleled. Two photos show mid-paint correction on door and rear quarter panel

I ordered a 8.8” screen to replace the 6.5” as it was just too small. The NBT EVO ID6 graphics are far more crisp and clean than the old CIC system from my last F31. As I travel for work with this car, I also retrofitted CarPlay using an Andream unit. I had the Bimmertech MMI Prime on my last F31 and although the tech support from Bimmertech is miles better than Andream, the functionality of the units are almost identical.

Those were just brakes from a base 335i (single piston rear) that I rebuilt and had powder coated. That being said, even those made a difference in braking performance. I will be upgrading brakes on this one as well, we’ll see what I end up using.

One of the main ‘features’ I miss from my last F31 is the drivers side storage pocket in the dash. Because the new F31 has collision detection and lane departure, I lost this. Decided to just install the storage compartment and secure the buttons to the dash support. This means I don’t have immediate access to the buttons which I’m working to find a solution to. All that I’ve found is the below thread which I don’t like.

Where did you route the driver assist buttons?
Part Numbers? I see the one, but I think that's just the trim?

The parts needed are the storage compartment itself (I purchased a used one from eBay for $20) and the OEM retainer plate piece (part no. 51459267520) Max |

A couple short updates:
Qi wireless charger installed - this was the easiest and most simple mod I’ve ever done, and can’t argue with ~$30 Also replaced my stock charge pipe with the FTP charge pipe that I got on sale at ECS Tuning for $180. Need to clean the pollen from the engine bay! Max Last edited by clemsonf31; 04-09-2022 at 06:13 PM.. |

Also got a set of 440 stock brakes from Precisionnick , thanks Nick! Used them for a new powder coat project/color. Sandblasted locally and powder coated by a friend of mine using a ‘wet orange’ color from powderthepound.com
I haven’t bought rotors, pads or SS lines yet so will mount once complete. Max Last edited by clemsonf31; 04-09-2022 at 06:15 PM.. |

Nice progress Max, can you elaborate on the wireless charging pad install? And love the brake setup, will look killer! I will eventually go MPerformance BBK or F80 M3 brake setup, but I recently put on a new set of rotors and pads so i'll wait a bit.

The charging pad was purchased from AliExpress (China) as I had a ‘store credit’ after a problematic Andream MMI unit. Regardless, the Qi Charger was ~$30 and has a specific harness to plug into the F30 cigarette lighter, then to the wireless charger. I pulled the front center console out, removed the OEM rubber panel in front of the cup holders, then snapped in the Qi charger, that’s it! Max |

I'm not sure how you could make it look clean, but have you considered relocating the driver assistance buttons to thr lower dash trim below the radio and AC trim? It's a cheap part and if you mess up yiu can always buy another and try again without having an irreversible hole in your dash etc.
