Replacement Battery

I have a 2015 F30 which would not start this morning due to a flat battery, TBF it's been struggling on the cold mornings so I should have sorted it earlier...

But, I've picked up a replacement battery from Halfords, and intended to fit it, but then realised that the battery needs registering to the car.

If I fit the battery today, will the car start OK, or not, because it's not registered with the car?
If it could then be driven, I could drive to my local BMW independent garage on Monday when they open, and they can then register the battery with their programmer.

Any advice pls?

Your car will work fine.
Registering is only to ensure the right way of charging

Thanks, but I'm getting conflicting advice, I phoned Halfords earlier who said that they no longer fit batteries to F30's because they don't have a programmer (yet), and the last time they did fit one, the car immobilised and blocked a fitting bay until they could get someone out to program it!

So, I'm not sure what to do next...

You can register the battery using a reasonably priced scanner such as Foxwell NT510. Search YouTube for a video chat explaining the process. Very straightforward.

Your car wont be immobilised.
The registration insures the correct loading of the battery, volt and amp’s
It increases the lifespan of the battery.

You can register it yourself with a app like Carly.

Bimmercode can code a change to the ampere hour rating, but it can't register the battery. I bought a Foxwell NT510 knowing that it could register batteries, and that sooner or later I'd need its other diagnostic and repair capabilities. If there's a freeware app than can do battery registration it should come up in a web search.

Carly works, but it's not exactly an economical choice.
