I needed something for when the X5 40e came off lease and had been looking to buy used X5's or X3's. Don't need the hybrid anymore since I moved to the land of cheap gas (anyone else fill up for $2.03/gallon Saturday?). Wanted all the safety nannies as I do a 180 mile trip on each end of the weekend and it's dark for a lot of the drive. Laser headlights were a plus. Higher ground clearance for the streets and roads that get some mild flooding when it rains and AWD to get me across crazy truck traffic on sand and dust covered roads.
Oh, I also got a ridiculous deal on an exec car from my car pusher, errr, dealer, Greg Poland at Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA. This makes car number 4 from him since 2011. Bought 2 in the last 2 months so the stats are slightly skewed. Happy GT owner to be as I just bought mine tonight!

Hmmm. Another member (I think that makes at least 3 now) with both a 40e and an F34 GT. Maybe we should start a sub-sub group for that combo!

X5 40e was great in Vegas (I had solar) and DC (commuting on all electric to work). Not so much of a deal in the land of $2.03/gallon premium gas... Lease is up in July.

I was looking at a new x1 and found it just didn't have all the tech I wanted. I have a truck for hauling and off-road/high clearance stuff but wanted an SUV for family and the dog. Then I saw a used GT and it was just what we needed. Roomier cabin than the X1, more tech for similar price, and enough room for the dog to sprawl out in the trunk if needed. The 6-cylinder N55 sealed the deal.

Had F80 M3, love the car but didn't really get to enjoy it since I use it to shuttle 2 young kids.
Went to Tesla Model S. Hated the quality control issues, but love the hatch back design. Decided to back to a car, and the only car that really met my criteria was the new S5 sportback. Bought that, loved the car, but rear seats and hatch not as big as I would have liked. Saw the GT but was way more drawn to the GC - test drove both, but decided function over form and got the GT. With the M bumpers it doesn't look too bad, but loving the huge interior and hatch space. |

I'm 6'8", so in most cars, the rear seat gets cramped sitting behind me. In my 07 550i, there was 4-5 inches for my kids legs. With the GT, there is quite a bit more, and it's much more comfortable for the kids when traveling.
I love the styling, as I am a big fan of hatchbacks. But, with this you get the benefit of a hatchback, with the slick design of a coupe. Not sure why the hate from so many. Only thing I miss from s 5 series is the more comfortable seats, as I drive 50mi to work each day, each way. Overall, so far, I'd buy it again. |
