The Grand Cherokee got that name because it costs you about a grand a month to keep them running.

I needed something for when the X5 40e came off lease and had been looking to buy used X5's or X3's. Don't need the hybrid anymore since I moved to the land of cheap gas (anyone else fill up for $2.03/gallon Saturday?). Wanted all the safety nannies as I do a 180 mile trip on each end of the weekend and it's dark for a lot of the drive. Laser headlights were a plus. Higher ground clearance for the streets and roads that get some mild flooding when it rains and AWD to get me across crazy truck traffic on sand and dust covered roads.

Oh, I also got a ridiculous deal on an exec car from my car pusher, errr, dealer, Greg Poland at Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA. This makes car number 4 from him since 2011. Bought 2 in the last 2 months so the stats are slightly skewed. Happy GT owner to be as I just bought mine tonight!

Hmmm. Another member (I think that makes at least 3 now) with both a 40e and an F34 GT. Maybe we should start a sub-sub group for that combo!

I heard that they only have top shelf folks here, so I had to get with the program...

X5 40e was great in Vegas (I had solar) and DC (commuting on all electric to work). Not so much of a deal in the land of $2.03/gallon premium gas... Lease is up in July.

I was looking at a new x1 and found it just didn't have all the tech I wanted. I have a truck for hauling and off-road/high clearance stuff but wanted an SUV for family and the dog. Then I saw a used GT and it was just what we needed. Roomier cabin than the X1, more tech for similar price, and enough room for the dog to sprawl out in the trunk if needed. The 6-cylinder N55 sealed the deal.

Had F80 M3, love the car but didn't really get to enjoy it since I use it to shuttle 2 young kids.

Went to Tesla Model S. Hated the quality control issues, but love the hatch back design. Decided to back to a car, and the only car that really met my criteria was the new S5 sportback. Bought that, loved the car, but rear seats and hatch not as big as I would have liked.

Saw the GT but was way more drawn to the GC - test drove both, but decided function over form and got the GT. With the M bumpers it doesn't look too bad, but loving the huge interior and hatch space.

I'm 6'8", so in most cars, the rear seat gets cramped sitting behind me. In my 07 550i, there was 4-5 inches for my kids legs. With the GT, there is quite a bit more, and it's much more comfortable for the kids when traveling.
I love the styling, as I am a big fan of hatchbacks. But, with this you get the benefit of a hatchback, with the slick design of a coupe.
Not sure why the hate from so many.

Only thing I miss from s 5 series is the more comfortable seats, as I drive 50mi to work each day, each way.
Overall, so far, I'd buy it again.

Huge amounts of space and got a good deal on a used one with good service history. Would have probably preferred a true wagon of this size instead though.

Nonetheless the only thing I slightly regret is going 28 instead of 35 for the engine and headlights. LEDs and a tune have helped though.

Note, went with the 328 vs the 335 because the sulev warranty is pretty substantial.

I picked up a loaded '18 330i F34. Had 32K miles and was CPO. With the remainder of the original warranty, and an added year of CPO warranty, I have about 3 years of warranty now. Cost was $28K at my favorite BMW dealer - BMW of Reading (PA).

I started with an F34 (2005 328i), and have had F3* since - but I really like this vehicle. The final touch for me was paying the dealer $100 to have her swap my Audiotec-Fischer amp from my '14 F30 (the stock audio was pretty crappy)

I went to the dealer to look at 135i but it sold the night before so I figured I'd peruse the lot while I was there, and while I was poking around the inventory the sales guy pointed out the GT and I was able to get a smokin deal on it.

I had narrowed my search down to a newer 40i BMW with B58 motor. Really was looking for a 440i GC in Tanzanite Blue and had found one too w/ extended Golden Brown leather! Loved the low 'n wide look and also the hatchback design. Too bad they never made one with a manual, otherwise that would've sealed the deal.

Life sometimes has other plans and a 2016 one owner M-Sport GT trade-in came along at a local BMW dealership. Not in any sexy color combo but the generic Mineral Grey on black... not to mention N55 instead of B58. Most likely due to its perceived "ugliness" it was taking them a while to sell and they dropped the price to quite an attractive level for a CPO car. I went for a test drive and really got blown away by the roominess, rear seat legroom and overall utility! The power was adequate, and I knew multiple tuning options were available for the platform. Also I am a sucker for Pano roofs and I believe this is one of the few BMW non-SUVs that offer it. The active spoiler was a super nice throwback to my time as a VW Corrado VR6 owner

The dealer offered a decent amount for my trade-in and that was it. The more I thought about it, as someone with wife and two young kids... this car made perfect sense... enough room to stretch out during road trips and loading luggage is a breeze. Now with MPPK and MPE installed... it is ever ready to sprint too. The whole family loves it and that to me is the best part.

Previous to the GT I had an E87

I absolutely loved that car. However it was time for a car that fitted in as a family car having a 5 year old and at the time, a second child on the cards.

So after 10 years and 110,000 miles of ownership the E87's clutch started to go so the time came for the change, although this was 12 months before I'd planned too, but there you go.

- The next car had to be a hatchback.
- Looking likely to be another BMW.
- Not an SUV (hate the leaning in the corners.)
- Good size boot.
- Reasonable amount of legroom in the rear. (something the E87 didn't have)

So that left these options.

4GC
This was the best looking by far and if I didn't have a young family I probably would've bought one, but felt it was too much of a compromise on space compared to the other offerings.

3 estate
Although this would give me the space I needed and a better driving experience than the GT, I can't help but think of a Volvo when I see an estate car. Don't get me wrong I would have one, and this probably would be the car I would've bought if the GT didn't exist, but I found the GT more appealing.

3 GT
The GT gave the coupe style of the 4GC + more space (especially the rear legroom, which is fantastic) than the 3 estate.

I quite like the fact that it's different, bit of a dark horse. Even after 7 years of production the look on people's faces trying to work out what BMW it is, hilarious.

The only compromise I find with the GT is the handling/ride height. Even having M sport suspension and 19's I find it rolls a little too much in the corners for my liking. I can see a set of AC schnitzer springs been added in the future.

Looks like I'm going to have to keep this car just as long as I did the E87 now they've scrapped the F34.

So I could lay down the back seats and haul things like a loveseat. 😂
Just kidding, I went to buy a 3 series diesel and the dealership showed me this one instead. They said they thought I'd love it. I wasn't sold on the hatchback at first, but my kiddos loved the rear room compared to my F30 that I was replacing. I'm so glad I bought this now. I get a lot of compliments on it.

Same here, mine had been on the dealer lot for over 100 days so they were losing money by keeping it around. I asked if it was because buyers were turned off by the styling and the salesman confirmed. After owning it for a while I've really started to love the utility of the hatch. I only wish the M-Sport styling was more consistent with the F30.
