Anyone else see this massive security problem?

The other day, I went into a supermarket, spent an hour shopping, then came out to the parking lot to a horrible sight. My trunk lid was standing wide open, in the middle of a dark parking lot, with the trunk light illuminating a very expensive, very steal-able item. I had managed to hit the trunk unlock button from within the store simply by having the keys in my back pocket. Turns out the "you have to hold the button down" safety feature of the keyfob is useless since you only have to hold it down for one half of a second on my 2017 F30. That's basically a normal keypress! Is there a way to code in a longer delay requirement?

Lol, I feel you 110%. I'd come out of work several days at 11 PM and see my trunk lid open for anyone to grab whatever they like. Who knows how long it had been open. I learned to remove my keys and set them somewhere, sucks but it's the only fix I saw fit.

You do realize that you can code the delay longer, don't you? But I do agree, from the factory, it is a serious issue. You shouldn't have to do it yourself...

You can code the delay. I wouldn't keep the fob in a back pocket. You're far more likely to back into something behind you than to walk into something in front of you. Ass-dialing is an oft used term. Ever heard of nut sack dialing?

It's dumb that BMW has moved to the trunk popping all the way open. On my E46 and E39, when you pop the trunk, it still looks closed.

If it doesn't pop all the way open then you can't put stuff into it without first opening it the rest of the way, which can be difficult if you've got both hands full.

I've had this happen a few times. The trunk button is a little more sensitive than the rest it would seem.

I coded mine so it requires holding for about 4 seconds to open. Annoying but I rarely put anything in there anyways. I also disabled the kick opening too

I have it on good authority that a long press unlock when your fob is wedged under the corner of your laptop in the bag also opens all windows and sunroof... in the rain.

Same problem, happens semi regularly. Freaks me the f out every time too.

Every time I plug in ista there's an 'informational' code about "contact free tailgate opening" but I never made any sense of it. I don't know if it's related and I don't think I am mashing the button either.

I keep my FOB in my front pocket. I can’t count how many times I have had to climb out to close the trunk. It doesn’t pop all the way open.

Funny story: was wearing a nanopuff winter jacket and had the key in my front pocket. Opened the trunk while driving with my gut. Eye-opening experience.

My F31 opens the trunk when you vaguely walk past the rear 3/4 area of the car ...not directly behind...no...I could wave my foot under the ass of my car all I want, with the man-grab of groceries (I.e every single grocery bag is getting lifted at once or so help me) and the trunk doesn't budge.

But ever so slightly look at it from a funny angle and it spreads wide open like a $5 hooker for everyone to take a look and have what they want.....

It's so annoying and when you're in some dodgy car park in LA and have run into the store, or when I'm filling my gas and it just springs open is infuriating.

I coded my trunk lid to open after 3 - 4 seconds and never open windows/sunroof off key fob. It's nice to be able to open your car up as you approach on a hot day, but not worth the possibility of finding the sunroof open in a big rainstorm. Water pouring into the electronics can yield a total loss

Been there. I disable the trunk via glovebox switch when I have my valuables in trunk.

It mostly happens in my garage.

You can code it for a two stage system, where you must unlock the car, before the remote trunk release will function. Never had any issues since doing this.

You can code it and also use a key fob case where you have to rotate it out to press the buttons.

This happened to my F31 at dealership while in for 2nd oilchange, but they wouldn't admit it. I learned to put keys 20ft away to not trigger comfort access tailgate.

Super easy solution fiy for all of you, go to the dealer and get the leather case for your keys. Blocks the signal pretty well If you happen to still accidentally press. You can easily flip keys out and press button
Highly recommended accessory!!!
