Advice!

Arrived yesterday in Cornwall...family holiday for a week. Very narrow roads and managed to run over a rock that got stuck. Had to get a jack to release it.
Looks to be damage to the underside, no leaks that I can see. Most of the damage near the under side of the gear box.
Obviously wasn't to get it checked out but nearest dealer 45 mins away. Thinking of calling BMW assist...never used it before, is this something they erith help with?
Car seems OK to drive but being in the middle of nowhere with a small child makes me nervous just to hour for the best.

What makes you nervous, in particular ?

If the car does go wrong, it'll be an inconvenience, or is there more (a medical condition, etc) ?

If there's nothing in particular, then you'd seem to be 'borrowing worry' for the sake of it. Chill, enjoy the holiday and life !

If no error messages coming up, I would just keep driving it.

I too must ask why you are nervous? You mentioned a dealer 45 miles away, even with gentle driving it would be a one hour drive at best. That would alleviate any fears and put your mind at rest.

Always found BMW assist really helpful. They even collected our car because the MPPSK was rattling after install.
Apparently the dealers have to prioritise BMW assist cars and at least you'll be guaranteed a courtesy car, delivered to you, if they do find anything wrong with yours.
It'll save you wasting your holiday driving to a dealers 👍

BMW roadside assist is described as emergency roadside assistance. I don't see any kind of emergency going on here : If there are no leaks or odd sounds surely a local garage can have a quick look see? If there is something wrong then either dealer or assist.

Why not just get a local garage to have an initial look at it? At least it won’t cost you £150 per hour for putting a car on the ramp.

Think in the heat of the moment, I feared that there may be damage to suspension or the rock had punctured suomething. Its ripped the covering to bits under the car, the lip under the bumper is scratched to shit and have scrapes on the sill and alloy.
A mixture of panic when the car was beached and me being fuming mad as my once pristine car is now scratched to bits.
Called BMW assist and they have booked me in to get it checked out on Monday.
Just a bit pissed off.

No idea how the photo will appear on here, but looks like something has snapped. Tried to highlight it on the photo, if anyone can make it out can you let me know what it is?

Garage List
Shit happens but the main thing is the car still goes, you're all OK and you're on holiday. Worrying won't do anything but spoil your day so put it to the back of your mind and enjoy yourselves

Where about in Cornwall are you? There is a good specialist in Redruth, Howards BMW - www.howardcornwall.co.uk - or JMW in Roach, near St Austell - www.jmwautotechnic.co.uk

The BMW dealership is in Penryn/Falmouth.

Get BMW assist on the phone, let them asses that’s what they are there for, if you go out on the road and something happens then you would be to blame, better to be safe then sorry, I’ve used them for a boot that doesn’t close before, not an emergency, but you can’t drive the car like that, they will get you a hire car and transport the car if needed

That is the light level sensor. You've ripped off the ball that the black plastic arm clips onto.

Part 4 in the BMW parts listing, the clip thing at the bottom of it.

Just to point out : as it's impact damage, then BMW Assist will be sending someone a bill.
If it's recovery, repair at main agent rates, hire car, etc. then that bill might be substantial.

If the car is within it’s first 3 years, or it’s 1 year AUC, it comes with BMW assist for free - so the recovery/hire car I would be included, just like any other breakdown service you pay for - but obviously any repair costs by the dealer will be charged.
If you’ve got BMW assist, can’t hurt ringing them. From our experiences using them, they’re above and beyond any service you’ll get from any other breakdown service.
Our last MINI was recovered by them (or rather the local breakdown service they used) after an accident and taken to main dealers and hire car turned up from Enterprise later that day. No charge from BMW Assist
Its not just for emergencies, it’s a breakdown and recovery service. Use them like you would the AA etc, the only thing being that it goes to dealers and not any old local garage
