Post Someone is swapping a 2JZ into their F30 328i

Found in the N20 Enthusiast group on Facebook today. Very excited to see how this build turns out. If it isn't too costly, I might try it myself

Very cool. Would love to hear more backstory and plans for it, starting with... Why? Track build? Blew the original motor?

Very interesting. 2JZ motor has a couple of variants with GTE variant generating more attractive performance numbers.

Since 2JZ is also an in-line 6 cylinder engine, why not consider B58 or N55 as well?

Backstory would be welcome.

He mentioned not wanting to deal with the N55 engine problems.. I'll link the thread but it's a closed group so you need access to view.

Got it. Thanks.

N55 has been generally reliable with the exception of a few known problems.

As much as I love BMWs and the 2j, I'd hate to see more people buying these up to put into f30s.....it seems like a waste on such a big, heavy car. You used to be able to source one with an r154 tranny for like 3500 and they have skyrocketed lately

Yea, that 50 lbs is such a huge, big, heavy difference

If you're gonna go through swapping in an N55 or B58, you might as well save the money and just buy a 335i or a 340i. There's just something cool about a 2JZ swap, and very unique, probably one of one in an F30.

I didn't mention anything about swapping a 2j into a supra, did I? Why would that make sense unless it was an N/A and you were swapping in the gte?

The 1j and 2j are big swaps for the 240sx....the s14 has a curb weight of about 2800 pounds and is a great donor for this engine

Are you confused? The Supra originally had a 2JZ engine, and weighed 50 lbs less than a 328i.

We're talking about swaps, not the Supra. He's just saying there are better swap candidates (that are lighter) than the F30, and I tend to agree. Doesn't make it any less of a cool project though.

Seems a timely and fitting kind of swap since the new Supra uses the B58 lol. Excited to see how this unfolds. Are you going to keep this thread updated since it's locked on Facebook?

I give it two months before His build shows up on Jalopnik or Car Throttle with some title connecting it to the new Supra having a Bmw engine lol, because clickbait

Hahahah exactly. I think it is going to be a long, drawn-out build. He was saying he's in the process of acquiring all the parts and then he still needs to find a shop.

I will definitely keep this updated!

I watched a history video on the 2JZ and I have to admit that was an unbelievable motor especially for it's time... I'm sure the new motor had some consulting engineers from toyota before that motor was allowed into the supra... So in essence the motor has a little 2jz magic in it...
