Cheap eBay tuning chip box
Has anyone bought or used the cheap tuning boxes on ebay like the below?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Diese...frcectupt=true seems like there are a few on offer around the £50-70 range and i have saw some good reviews / feedback from ebay buyers who have used them and wondering if anyone on here has used them. |

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, personally.
Can't comment on that exact one, but for years there have been plenty such devices, which pretty much comprise of a few cheap resistors to trick the ECU into thinking various sensors are giving different readings. Would i chance it on a £800 Peugeot HDI? Possibly On a £15k or so F30? er...no. |

Same as with financial investments: Only invest/tune what you can afford losing!
If you can easily afford losing your engine - go for any tuning you see fit. Worst case - you will lose your engine.

Not on eBay anymore, but they have an Amazon shop.
The Italian Box is the one you want. It's at the same sort of price point, but they work incredibly well. I have 3 friends that run them on diesel BM's. There's a specific one for each Diesel engine derivative. My mates 18d X1 nearly pulls as well as a stock 3.0d! And bimbling around he's seeing 60mpg. He took me down south last summer for me to pick my new bike up. I drove his X1 at least half way. No word of a lye, nearly 300 mile journey & average was 75mpg. He did even better going home!

You buy something that you don't know anything about really and you most likely unlike MCM don't have to means to verify what it does. Could do anything, could do the job as advertised, could be harmful to your car or like in their case could do absolutely f all. |

Yes Bluespark is probably the cheapest i’d recommend, although really it’s best to get the twin channel box which is £280, so for just another £100 you can get a DTUK or TDI Tuning box which are far better quality.

Oh dear, it says it's not compatible with my vehicle, such a bummer, I was really looking forward to putting one of those on my £50k car

As Pythagoras once said - Quality is like oats. If you want the good stuff it costs. However if you don’t mind something that’s already passed through the horse once already ……
Personally I’d pay the bit extra for a decent remap but your car your choice.
