435i exhaust questions
Hey guys, i have a 435i with the mpe and res delete. I was wondering if removing the secondary cat will make any difference in sound? If so, how different? Im also debating opening the mpe muffler and straight piping the middle perforated pipe. Will it almost sound like its completely straight piped? What if i end up removing the secondary cat and remove the perforated pipe inside the muffler, how will it sound? I dont wanna remove the muffler completely as i wanna keep the valves and i plan on going catless soon as well. Just wanna make it as loud/deep tone as possible. Thanks

Well the resonator is what gives you the deep tone, without it your exhaust will be raspy. The catalytic converter is a big restriction in terms of noise and it will definitely get louder with it removed, and also smelly. If you're set on removing the cat, I'd remove that first before straight piping your muffler.

If you go catless downpipe, you will probably want to put the resonator back on (unless you don't care about cabin drone). I personally am more than happy with MPE + res delete but it sounds like you may need to swap out the downpipe for the deep/louder tone you're after.

https://www.awe-tuning.com/make/bmw/...32-435-exhaust Currently they have a black Friday sale. AWE is more aggressive and louder. I like it a lot more, personally. MPE isn't bad, but I think it pairs best with a catless downpipe. AWE might be too aggressive for some people. Yes it burbles a lot, but I have an aftermarket catted downpipe. Burbles can be adjusted in bootmod3 though. I have my burbles turned down in BM3 because there were too many for me. |

I have, and I can say there is a considerable difference. Also, even at OEM burble setting in BM3, AWE had stronger/louder burbles. Looks like you don't even have an N55, so not sure where your feedback is coming from. This forum already has enough misinformation and assumptions thrown around. |

My mention simply referred to the fact that it's a completely different engine which sounds different than an N55. Even if you compare the mufflers between the MPE and AWE - totally different technology, size, and restriction. AWE is essentially a drone-free resonated muffler delete, about the size of our glovebox. MPE is basically the same as an OEM muffler with less sound reduction packing. If your "cousin" has a stg2 435i with AWE, then he should have an aftermarket downpipe, which means it would be significantly louder than a stock 335i with MPE or 428i with AWE & OEM DP. At the end of the day it's very hard to tell the differences in Youtube videos - in person is the only consistent way to determine this. |

You also mention removing secondary cat (your keeping the resonator) then removing perforated pipe inside the muffler. (This is alot fo work and we for sure don't know how it will sound like)....I never encountered this except on an m3 v8 with unpack exhaust sound not loud at all. Anyway at the end you mention catless dp... I would say just catless and keep everything stock. That's sounds better to me. |
