andream and bimmertech units are identical hardware and software stack - they just use slightly different software GUIs - has been proven in other threads.
id go the andream and save the $$, just did it on my M2 and happy with the outcome

Ordered mine from eBay for my NBT equipped M4, should arrive next week.

Last one I ordered (for my E90 M3 with CIC) came from AliExpress, no problems.

So I installed mine yesterday , it took me 4 hours to do the whole thing . I have older CIC with pro nav , Routing the AUX cord took 1 hour as i had to hide it properly and remove the IPhone adapter that came with the car . I was sent the NBT unit but it works fine , so far good no issues .

Yes its worth it and works great . Car start and 30 seconds in its all ready to go switches automatically . Sound quality is same to my ears , I have turned off Loudness setting as it was distorting the sound and set the EQ to Rock preset and its fine for me . I think most complaints about sound quality are due to Loudness setting in MMI box .

Hey @everyone such a great thread - great comparison and post by the OP.

I've been trawling the threads in the forum looking through the various options as I'm keen for a retrofit solution myself and have stumbled upon the route of Flashing the ID4 into ID6 - you also have to add a wireless transmitter but that aside, it seems simpler and slightly cheaper than the MMI route at around $219 USD feels a safe option to some of the Chinese solutions that worry me with aftermarket support and updates.

Bimmer-Remote offer the kit here:

https://bimmer-remote.com/products/b...lay-fullscreen

…so just wanted to ask if anyones looked at or tried this approach as an alternative? I have seen one thread where a member in the US did and seem to work well (can't find that thread now though *sigh*)

Thanks in advance.

Update: price is actually $219 USD depending on your requirements

That option is totally dependant on whether your car is fitted with the right hardware. For a simple flash from ID4 to ID6 you need to have NBT EVO, and the cars with ID4 NBT EVO are a relatively slim timeframe, only MY2016 I believe.

Your signature suggests you have a 2015 model, which may be the earlier NBT head unit.

Thanks MJBO appreciated. Yep I'm 2015. Sec I believe so close to 2016.

Anyone tell me how to confirm that I've got NBT Evo. Will it be in the unit settings maybe?

Thanks in advance.

Check your map version, you’ll see it in there.

Hi everyone,

I have a maybe weird question regarding these retrofit options, maybe people who own one of the devices can answer. What about listening to radio while CarPlay is active? Does it work alongside lets say navigation sounds? Or maybe when using CarPlay you can't do that at all because of Aux being the selected output at all times.

Hey can anyone recommend an installer for the Andream unit in South Eastern Vic - little apprehensive on installing myself (knowing me I'd break something). Have the unit - just need the install done...

Thanks heaps!

you can listen to radio as normal but no sound will come from carplay (using AUX) , display would be there but no sound until you switch to AUX e.g. you can still see waze etc.

I noticed that a lot of Android retrofit screens looked the same, and after a little investigation, I found out a lot the sellers (like Koason, and bimmertech just to name a few) are rebranding Android screens that can be found on Alibaba from the same supplier/manufacturer for cheaper.

Does anyone have any experience with purchasing these screens from Alibaba for cheaper?

I bought a MMI box from Extreme Car Deco in Melbourne and used it for 2 years in my 2012 F30. When i sold the car took the box out and installed in my 2014 F30. The MMI interface incl CarPlay and Android Auto works Ok however I can no longer configure HUD and lights options through the settings. My previous car did not had ambient lights or HUD but the system was same (NBT). Is there something I am missing? need any additional connectors?

I got the ID4 to ID6 update done on my 2016 M135i and it works perfectly. CarPlay works without a hitch and no complaints at all
