Doesn't water wetter only work when using 100% water?

I think it is less effective with coolant present but might still do a little bit.

It works with or without. Water wetter is just an additive, just like coolant.

Water = Does all the cooling
Coolant/Anti-freeze = Prevents water from freezing in cold temps
Water Wetter = Reduces surface tension in the heat exchanger to increase heat transfer to water

Probably something to post in the MHD thread, but the MHD tuning app has an option that called: "sport cooling mode for intercooler". The manual says: "This flash option runs the pump for W2A (water to air) intercooler cars more in order to improve
cooling of IAT’s, especially useful when sitting in the staging lanes waiting to race". Not sure if bootmod has that same setting.

With the CSF Heat Exchanger, would setting that help? And if so, what would it do?

It reduces coolant targets for the intercooler circuit. From what I've seen, it normally targets ~20F over ambient. So if it's 60F outside, the water pump will turn on when IATs are above 80F. With sport mode on, for example, it'll keep temps at 70F.

It will not reduce temp increase or improve efficiency of the heat exchanger, but should help reduce peak temps. So if normally my IATs go from 80F-100F during a pull, it'll be 70F-90F with sport cooling on.

Here's the final round of data. I added a half bottle of water wetter to the intercooler circuit, and it made another incremental improvement in temp and consistency.

IAT Delta (IAT Increase during the pull)
Stock: 21°F,19°F,17°F
CSF: 19°F,17°F,15°F

Vid review coming later

2 questions for you-
Do you think that this mod has bigger impact on 'while driving' cooling performance than cooling performance during staging periods? I'm primarily concerned about rising IATs while staging for drag racing and in between autocross runs while the car is idling and stationary.

Do you think this mod or WMI would have more impact on cooling during idling/staging periods?

None of these mods will provide a dramatic improvement when parked. It helps, but not much. Best bet is to put ice on the intake manifold and/or spray water on the radiator while idling in the staging lanes. Don't turn off the car right away.

Alright I hear you. I did use ice at the dragstrip last month and it seemed to help somewhat.

Just registered an account to give a quick thanks kern417 I installed last weekend thanks to your video alone.

Do you think I have a chance of running lean if I dont supplement with a tune? Stock turbo , aftermarket intake, and the MPPSK from BMW.

No, this won't affect your fueling

Awesome vid man thanks for the update!

In regards to the "Sport cooling mode" that some tuning programs offer you, do you think this will impact the life of the water pump with it running more often? is the water pump for the "cold side" a mechanical or electronic pump?

Again thanks for the info, I'm subscribed and cant wait to see what else you do!

I don't see it being an issue. The pump for the low-temp circuit (intercooler) is electrical.

I don't have any direct experience with the Wagner *heat exchanger* but I'd imagine that they'd both perform similarly.

I'm curious, since our ac depends on this same heat exchanger, did anyone notice their ac getting colder after doing this mod?

it wouldn't make it colder directly, but it may help it stay cold in hotter climates. i've never had issues with my A/C personally.

Here in Phoenix, the summer can get as hot as 120F, that's why I asked if maybe the heat exchanger could help. And I already bought the CSF one, probably will install it in the coming months.

Also, have you posted a review of the intake manifold you installed a while ago on your 340i, it would be interesting to see IAT differences. I'm personally interested in buying the new Do88 intake manifold, it apparently fits our stock engine cover.
