Need suggestions from those who have upgraded Halogen bulbs on their LCI F3X

I had a pre LCI prior and used a couple different cheap no name bulbs before eventually settling on Morimoto for a quality set.

I rushed to buy the same ones for my newly acquired LCI only to find on the bulb mounting is completely different? Am I missing something? I obviously knew the lights were refreshed with LCI but find it very strange the way they have altered the mounting. It must be on purpose.

As far as I can tell... BMW integrated the mounting directly onto the H7 connector... completely different than the traditional design of having the connection on the back on the reflector itself.

I could theoretically plug the H7 in and have the headlight work but since the mounting is literally right there (not on back of housing)... there's no room for the heat sink and cable from upgraded LED.

Surely someone else has noticed this?

Or am I completely retarded? I want to make LED work but I just don't see how that's possible.

You will need adapter clips like these:

Once the clips are added to the bulb, the bulb just screws in place.

Here are some pics. I just dont see how this is possible. Are there different types of clips?

The ones that I have do not seem to work.

Giving Morimoto a call now to see if they can recommend some specific adapter clips...

Just keeping this updated in case anyone else ends up down this road.

Regardless of chosen brand... you will not be install LED in your LCI Halogens without some sort of adapter.

These are the ones Morimoto has suggested. They said they still "may require modification" which is scaring me a bit.

Im really hoping they just work, this is already been way harder than it should be compared to my experience with pre-LCI Halogens.

Nope

The adapter clips they sold me simply did not work.

Sold the the Morimotos eBay. I ended up going with Sylvania zXe as a cheap, readily available halogen H7 bulb. Definitely whiter than stock halogen bulbs but not as bright or white as the LED's.

I think you can go with the "OE fit" bulbs like the "H7: GTR LIGHTING CSP MINI" that theretrofitsource makes. It doesn't stick out so you can add them. The thing is, does it still need some canbus decoder so it doesn't give an error message?

Here is another "OE Fit" bulb I found.

I installed a led kit today in my wife's F22. It has H7 headlight bulbs like the F30 does. The one I got had a removable adapter which made it easy. It was advertised as canbus error free and so far it hasn't thrown any codes or flickered. No coding needed. Completely plug and play.

Have to make sure the led is oriented in a 30-90 degree position so it'll be correct. Beam pattern looks good with no light scatter.

Here's the kit. I got the "Infitary H7 130W Canbus Ready Large Size"

The ones I got may work for you as they come with adapters with enlarged holes to work with most of the metal clips.

Any updates on this? The posts above show a Pre LCI car but sspade is suffering from the same issue I am - PRE LCI =/= LCI housings. There's a different clip in lci models that make it unique.

If anyone with an LCI car has successfully installed LED H7 lowbeams lmk.

Thanks
