F34 Tailgate latch/unlatch issue

Looking to see if anyone had this issue with the tailgate and know what the resolution was? I have seen a number of older posts similar to this but no one followed up with what the fix was.

When locked, won't unlock electronically (I hear the actuator, but just doesn't unlock). I can only unlock using the emergency release cable.

When open, auto close works but lock won't latch fully, it's not fully locked and light stays on in the trunk. At this stage electronic unlock will successfully open the tailgate. If the tailgate is slammed shut then it will fully latch/lock but then back to not being able to open execute for emergency release cable.

This sounds like a mechanical problem in the latching mechanism. The others you have mentioned had what sounded as electrical issue - no actuator sounds.

I'd look into removing the trim panels and watching the operation of the lock/latch to identify if anything is broken within.

Also, reading error codes via OBD2 might give a better view if its detected by the car.

I exact same Issue. So I got a decent amount of life out of my battery and just recently changed it . I coded it to the vehicle. Magically my tailgate started working again. The latch and soft close isn’t working. So it will open and will close with the touch of the button, but I have to force it down to get it to latch .

I may be having the same issue

When I hit any of the buttons for the tailgate function, the lid will release but doesn’t not lift, I then have to manually hit the latch button from the lid which it will
Then lift. The buttons will close the lid.

Does anyone know what I should do to diagnose this ?

It started this morning
