Gearbox creaking under hard acceleration?

Hi

I have a 430D F36 which is on 60k miles, bought as an AUC about a month ago,

Been fine but today I heard an odd creaking noise when accelerating from slow speeds.

So if I am rolling slowly or if I take off quickly from a start, it does it and it’s a creaking coming from the gearbox area.

Happens for a few seconds then stops but does it each time.

If I drive up the gears slower it’s fine and if I floor it when doing 50 and it shifts down, no noise.

Only does it when at a slow speed and hitting the throttle hard.

We thought it was something rattling in the centre console but nope, it’s coming from that area but below it.

Only thing I can think of is either exhaust or gearbox?

It’s RWD so not Xdrive but googling doesn’t bring up common issues.

Edit, video of the issue here.

First few seconds are my indicating and then you can hear the creaking from about 3 seconds onwards

Thanks

It sounds kind of like the exhaust moving around and tapping something to me. I know mine used to hit the floorboards in the rear under heavy acceleration until I adjusted it. Maybe slide under there and shake it, see if it's contacting anything.

I posted in the UK section also and it sounds like its the 'common' broken clip on the handbrake cable which causes it to drop and hit the prop shaft as you accelerate.

Going to get under the car this weekend when the temperatures have cooled a little and see what I can find.

Its AUC but I can't be bothered with the drama if taking it in if its the handbrake fix and I can stick a few cable ties on to fix it.

This might be helpful to me as I have a noise usually when loaded and accelerating , though it does it over bumps (ie compression of rear suspension) too. I first noticed it when the transfer case was done and made a trip cross country in it too but still wave t found the noise. Front seat passenger thinks is rear drivers floor board, I think it is passenger rear floorboard and rear passengers think it is the middle so….

No one has any blooming idea other than it doesn’t seem to reall be anything because nothing has worn thru in 5k miles of it doing it.

If you have a jack, it might be worth getting under the car to see. The handbrake cable should be obvious if that's the issue as it will be flailing about rather than nicely mounted where its meant to be.

Will report back on the weekend once I have had chance to check mine but i am 95% sure that is my issue.

Quick update - This was in fact the handbrake cable clip issue.

Got under the car and found one side of the clip had snapped and the cable was dangling down, not too much but clearly just above the drive/prop shaft. Couple of heavy duty cable ties later, noise is gone.

Even if it lasts a few years, it literally took me 5 minutes to do.

I am happy to report the same, was the right side clip on mine. Zip tie secured it.
