CTEK 7002. as a PSU

Has anyone tried using this charger as a PSU for coding/programming?

Per the manual the supply mode provides 13.6 volts which is allegedly whay BMW requires.

Thoughts?

it's not the voltage you need, but Amperage. how many amps does it provide?

you need at least 20, but 50-100 would be the best.

A battery charger is not a programming power supply. The difference is ripple voltage. A charger puts out very dirty voltage that fluctuates. A programming power supply does not do that. It is a very clean, solid voltage supply. Minimial ripple.

It's not all that bad, and besides, the battery will smooth any ripple.

Try one of these. I got a 60 amp model for not much more than a 100$. Used it yesterday for a nav map update. 45 minutes on battery with headlights on, no problem
You just need to clip the ends of a pair of jumper cables and screw them in to the terminals
