Hi everyone,

I bought a 2018 320i XDrive back in September, and it has been great. I love everything about it except for how slow it is. It's not that bad, but I just want to give it some more power but maintain the mpg and reliability, and I was wondering what the best overall mods and tunes are necessary to bring this thing up to a good hp number. I know these cars are extremely detuned so I know I can get some good hp out of this thing. If anyone has any solid knowledge of what to do to get some solid power out of this reliably, please let me know.

No ones going to guarantee you solid reliability with or without a tune. You take a chance tuning or you don't. BM3 Stg 1 + xHP trans tune and the car is night and day different. you'll never maintain your MPG. Reliability is based on how the car has been and will be maintained. Advance your maintenance when you tune.

You got some good advice already. Reliability is a function of your dedication to keeping up on maintenance. MPG always drops a bit but not from a tune, but from it being so much more fun to step on it with your right foot. My highway mileage on trips has been fairly consistent as I have modded for more engine power over the years.

Based on your priorities I would recommend:

Bootmod3 Stage1 91 Octane tune but put 92/93 octane in the tank. The engine will always run smoothly even if you occasionally get a weak batch of gasoline. Which is pretty common in the Northeast US. This is the big bump in power that you are hoping for!

FTP Charge Pipe & install a MAD 5” intercooler upgrade at the same time. Both of these go to reliability, especially when it gets hot this coming summer.

xHP automatic transmission tune Stage2. It will put down the extra torque and power to the asphalt to make the ride even more fun!

You can mod all you want if you catch the bug. But these are the best ways to spend your money up front.

Wow this was all great information! I always maintain my vehicles on time and everytime and my car has been maintained like that even from the previous owner. When it comes to the mpg, I use my car to commute with mainly but on the occasion, I like to try and have some fun with it so as long as the car is reliable, I know what the mpg will be like. I’m definitely going to look into the best intercooler, chargepipe, and tune to get. Anyone have any specific parts such as brand and model that are known to be the best reliability and power wise?

Best value per dollar and arguable the BEST charge and boost pipe combo is from FTP. ER raceworks as I have them are pretty, but FTP does the job at nearly 1/2 the price as I had those first. Go black color and take off the brand sticker and you are pretty close to OEM+

Best intercooler for value which performs is the vrsf 6.5. it also has a great resale value.


Best intercooler on the market is going to be from do88. You’ll pay for it however.
