This is only worth it with wireless CarPlay and support for Waze and Google maps. If BMW is looking to charge this as a month to month subscription there should be a way to activate it for free.

NBT EVO with ATM to retain connected drive can be retrofitted but it's usually pricey.

This is so annoying.
When I specced my X3, the dealer said it's not necessary to get Carplay since I can always add it later, if I have connecteddrive. Now they told me that the wireless package was also necessary for this and I am stuck! Anyone can please tell me if there's an alternate solution for my X3 G01? If I understand it correctly, if I install the Wi-Fi antenna myself and get some codes, that should get it working? Help |

You can get a WiFi antenna fitted to back of head unit, apparently it is quite easy to do but no idea how Once you've done that you can then get CarPlay coded or find someone who will do both for you, in the long run it is better to do that anyway as aftermarket coding is lifetime but the BMW factory option is only for 3 years, just remember to keep hold of the CarPlay coding file as if BMW do any software updates it may wipe CarPlay from system What do you think of G01 so far? |

Older iDrive
I have a 2014 328d. I've been searching the forums a bit and still not sure what to do. I want to be able to run Waze through my screen and keep my phone locked or in my pocket. I would love to get CarPlay but willing to settle for just waze. I think I have iDrive 4. Any thoughts on what I should do?

Don't want to go offtopic since this is the F30 forum but I can say the G01 is a very nice balanced car, I like it a lot coming from my E90 and overall I am happy with it. The sound of the engine (diesel 2.0) when cold is a bit rough, which is the only thing I don't like, aside from the missing carplay. |

I decided to take the plunge and get CarPlay activated by wibbles
Absolutely top service from him, I had received the bin file and upgraded my car within 2 hours of my initial email to him. Amazing! My car already had EBT and Wi-Fi so no hardware/coding upgrades required. I'm about to switch back to Apple music, plus I listen to a lot of podcasts and some audiobooks whilst in the car, so it's a much neater and safer solution than trying to use the touchscreen on my phone, even using a cradle. Plus I'll be getting a new iPhone soon so finally able to take advantage of the wireless charging. I've been using Deezer for 12 months, subscribing via the connected drive store. It's neat that it's integrated into idrive, and uses the car's data to download tracks, but I've found the functionality a bit limited compared to the app/website. There's no way of selecting your 'flow' or play podcasts, as far as I can tell anyway. The missus is getting a Mini with CarPlay soon so we've opted for an Apple Music family subscription. First impressions are good, it's been reliable so far and intuitive to use. The only drawback is not being able to utilise the full width of the pro nav screen, as I don't normally bother with split screen.

Hi Guys,
I pick my 330D XDrive up tomorrow and CarPlay is definitely something I'd like to be able to activate if my car has the necessary hardware to allow this. Could someone tell me in layman's terms what hardware is needed so I can check against the specification of my car. Thanks Simon |
