So make the crossover behind the rear seats if I see it correctly?

I chose to run the wires underneath the rear seats, so going into the cabin then tucked under the rear seats. Wire was a bit short so perhaps try beanbaguk's way.

The cable length is spot on if you trail under the boot trim and across the back of the rear seats. You can then place them alongside the other harnesses just under the rear seat trim and under the carpet below the door-frames.

I haven't completed my cabling diagrams yet however this should give you an idea of where to route the cable:

Remember, the cable should not be taut. It should have some slack along the whole length.

Ok, I posted the info in another thread allready (http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1234349), but it concerns bimmertech amp upgrades for base equipped bmw's:

I have a 428i with base setup, but I have a ASD (active sound design). Apparantely if you have base setup and ASD, the ASD acts as an amp.

So: HU > ASD > Speakers in my case
So some people say I should not use the normal base to hifi harness.
Because the good sequence should be : HU > ASD > AMP > Speakers, like it is when you have Hifi of HK.
With the normal base to hifi harness the sequence would become: HU > AMP > ASD > Speakers. What isn't a good idea...
What do you guys think? Anyone that also has ASD here?

Interesting find out. I also have ASD in my car with base sound system. I think ASD is standard on all F30 starting 2014. Currently i am using the harness come with the amp and no big issue except weak bass. (I talked a local shop who is the Match AMP authorized agent, and he said PP82 is not powerful enough to drive Focal Subs, but this is another story).

As for the harness, i suspect Bimmertech has taken the ASD wiring into account since all my speakers are making sounds.

But then you push amplified sound through the ASD... and the ASD amplifies this sound again. Could this do any harm?
Also your subs don't pass the ASD anymore, so maybe that is a part of your problem...

When I ordered from Bimmertech there was a check box to disable ASD in the package they provide, did you reach out to them to get this done?

On my side with base stereo my 03/2014 F30 doesn't have ASD, so not sure what the rule is.

I am not sure about how the signals pass through the wiring, but from the user's perspective, the setup didn't causing ASD to be too loud (or maybe even not any louder then before). i have set the ASD to M550's sound, and it is just sweet.

BTW, is the ASD simply just amplifies the fake exhaust signal generated from NBT or other ECU? or this is where the fake exhaust sound is actually generated and mixed into the sound systems?

Have you checked with Bimmertech about how the signals pass through their harness? Maybe they did go into ASD first? Hope Bimmbertech Nelson could help explain on their base to HIFI harness mechanism.

As for the SUB, even if it doesn't go through the ASD AMP, the Bimmertech AMP is still driving them. I have no complaint about the ASD sound. The weak bass i am feeling is when i am listening to music. They just don't punch....

For the latest update on my system tuning. I had cranked up all the possible gain setting in the DSP for the sub and the bass setting in iDrive is unchanged at default value (in the middle), and also adjust the switch 2 and 4 to on. Also got another suggestion from a X5 friend. He told me to change the HIFI_System in NBT coding to "individual" rather than to "HIFI", and it did help to give more solid bass. Now i think bass is ok, and still thinking if I should save some $ on adding an additional sub AMP.

For those who use Focal subs, i am told that the unit were actually designed to replace the HK Subs. So it would have perfect fit if installed in the HK Sub enclosure.

I have ordered the HK Sub enclosures and a B&W center tweeter and a X5 center mid range. Waiting for these parts to arrive and will have center sound stage installed.

No idea, either. But mine is 05/2014, and it came with the ASD.

I just got the grill for center speaker from the dealer, will attempt to cut into the dash sometime soon.

By any chance, did you have time to make the PDF? Could save me from tragic mistakes

Please document this as best you can! I'm really looking forward to seeing how well it goes as I plan to do the same in mine in time....

(I'd like to replace my subs as this is really letting the whole system down at the moment).

Important notice for BASE STEREO BSW Stage 1 owners

This is really for owners who've upgraded their base stereo system with bavsound stage 1 kits, and then decided to upgrade to the Bimmer-Tech premium audio kit afterwards.

I've had HUGE issues getting my premium audio system to work. I won't go into a mass of details, but short of the long; I was getting a lot of clipping at 2/3 volume and above.

I've worked very closely with Bimmer-Tech who've been brilliant trying to suggest all manner of things to resolve the issue. (Cables, battery, configurations, everything).

Last night however I finally managed to get through to Bavsound and I think I found the cause.

The bavsound front mid-range speakers come with an in-line filter, (I am not talking about the tweeter cross-over filter), and this is used to improve the sound quality when the output is from a base stereo HU system which is very very low.

However, the new signal from the Bimmer-Tech amp is of course much more powerful and therefore, this filter is no longer required and will potentially cause problems, (including clipping).

The short of the long is it has to be removed.

(Hifi BSW S1 users will note this filter does not exist with their set-ups.)

Tonight I plan to remove this filter from my BSW speakers and I'm literally praying my new amp issues are all resolved!

I'll post an update on this as soon as I've completed the changes so unless you are feeling adventurous, please don't make any changes yourself until I've reported back.

Remember, you do all these changes at your own risk and I take no responsibility for my suggestions!!!

Fingers crossed this works!!!

So this is the removal of the Bavsound Base Stereo mid-range driver filter.

This is the filter. The tweeter filter MUST remain.

Removing it is pretty straightforward. Just cut the cables on each end. Make sure however you keep enough on the cables so you can re-attach it should you need to:

When re-attching the cables I used crimps to ensure a solid connection.

Once everything is reconnected, you can test the speakers before re-attaching the door-cards.

And there you go. Clipping gone....at least in early tests.

I still need to upload a HiFi BSW config file. This is basically what you will now have in terms of wiring.

I hope this helps!

Ok, template is finished.
See pics.

It has two outer lines: first line (most outside) is the size of the cover, second line fits in the dashboard.
So you have to cut at the second line.
I suggest you cut out everything on the template (big hole in the middle and the 4 on the corners) and then tape it to the dashboard and mark the cut out lines with a fine pen.
Then remove the template and start cutting
You will need a very tiny knife. There is not much room!
I will use this one (it is for making scale models. It's small and very sharp):
