2) No.

F15 is no different than any other Fxx. Code it with E-Sys using F25 as the Target.
Thanks Shawn!

Stupid question probably - what does FDL stand for?

Also did you mean F25 or F15 when using E-Sys? New X5 is F15 as far as I know!

I know there are a few links on here - but are there any 'idiots guides' (e.g. with screenshots of the exact process)to performing this procedure (which from what I can tell is at the very simple end of coding!). I have seen the changing FA guide, but couldn't see anything about the 2nd part of the process to actually then code to the car. Thanks again!

FDL = Function Data Line. It is when you essentially change a single ECU Parameter (Function).

I meant what I wrote. F15 uses F25 PSdZData. It does not have its own. Same as F30 uses F20 PSdZData, and F12 uses F10 PSdZData, etc.

The Guides are all here:

Thanks! Really appreciate the help. The dealer really scared me when he said about the coded Car order not matching to their systems meaning it could crash everything! Obviously he was trying to scare me!! but you have allayed my concerns! Now to order the cable and software!!

Yes, that was his intent I am sure.

Good luck.

I have 6NL, should I change to 6NK? Is there a difference? I can currently stream music via Bluetooth but album artwork does not stream. However if I connect via USB I can stream via USB with album artwork.

Is it possible to get album artwork via Bluetooth streaming?

6NL is the same as Option 6NK, but adds support for BMW Assist (Telematics).

You cannot stream album art via Bluetooth on CIC Head Unit. It is possible though I believe with NBT Head Unit with iDrive 4.2 update.

If you are connected with a USB Cable, you are not streaming anything.

Is that a software update or is it a hardware update?

NBT, only when having Navigation Professional?

CIC and NBT are the hardware Head Units for 609 Navigation Professional, with NBT being the newest version. You can only get Album Art streaming with newer NBT, and even then I believe it needs iDrive 4.2 firmware on it.

I don't have nav, so I won't get album art while streaming either way I would guess. I get the album art when using the cable.

Hi Shawn - quick question...... coding with E-Sys - does that effectively achieve the same result as a garage could get using Autologic? I have a friend who is a mechanic and reckoned he may be able to do the coding for me using their Autologic system. Do you know if this is possible, or if there is any disadvantage as opposed to going down the E-Sys route?

Also - if I were to do it myself, what is the relevance of the version of the data files? i.e. do you need a specific version for a particular model of car? does it matter if the data file version is older than the car software?

Many thanks again - really appreciate your help!

Coding is coding, no matter the tool.

E-Sys can code any and everything in all ECU's. There is nothing more capable or better to use.

The benefit of Autologic is its diagnostic capabilities, and clearing error codes, not coding capabilities. I believe Autologic is limited to some predefined codings, but I am not very familiar with it, so don't hold me to it.

As for the data files, yes, it matters. The PSdZData version you use must be >= to the last version of ISTA/P used to program the car.

Thanks Shawn! AM I right in thinking that the way I will find out what version of ISTA/P was used is also done through E-Sys on first connection?

Yes, but not directly.

Tell me your I-Step Current, and I will tell you the ISTA/P version:

Thanks - I will send you the info once my cable arrives and I have the software working.

What would actually happen if you tried to code using PSdZData version that was older than ISTA/P version of car?

You will get harmless E-Sys errors, usually [C012] errors stating "Missing CAFD", but you can do no damage, so it's not something to be concerned about.

Already replied. Your car was last programed with ISTA/P 2.50.4 on it so any PSdZData >= 50.4 is good for you.

Is there anyway you could get a picture of the actual part number of this combox? I would like to see if I can get hold of one to retrofit to my new car which has neither Nav or EBT when it arrives.

Many thanks
