Code auto wiper sensitivity?
Does anyone know if there's any way to code the auto wipers to be more sensitive?
I think i remember it being possible on E90's but i can't find anything about it on F series cars. My windscreen gets very wet before the wipers wipe so i have to turn them on manually, which kind of defeats the point of auto wipers! |

as far as i know there is no sensativity option.
the auto wiper functionality is HORRIBLE. its never quick enough, it never reacts when it should.....and worst of all why isnt it running on auto ALL the time like other manufactures? it seems really silly to activate it to be auto every time it rains

On F10, you can code the Sensitivity of the 3 positions, but not the speed:
JBBF => RLS_FLC_SCHWELLWERT_SATZ_1 - position 1 (default 3) JBBF => RLS_FLC_SCHWELLWERT_SATZ_2 - position 2 (default 7) JBBF => RLS_FLC_SCHWELLWERT_SATZ_3 - position 3 (default 11 Hex 0B) Werte Values from 0 - 15 are possible; 0 means low switching threshold, 15 means high switching thresholds.

Funny enough i was at the dealer yesterday and mentioned the same problem.
The sensor always reacts too slow. In the best case the wiper reacts 10 seconds after it is supposed to be speeding up. At the dealer they told me the only thing they could do was to re-initialise the wiper sensor but there was no option to set the sensitivity. Have been looking in e-sys for the functionality but haven't found it either. |

As far as I know you can set the sensitivity of the rain sensor by rotating the thumbwheel on the wiper lever (right). Up=more sensitive, down=less. Page 69 of e-manual.
No need to code... |

The issue is that the highest sensitivity still isn't enough. It's always set to high in my car and i still have to click the wiper while it's on auto because i can't see through the windshield.

The f30 has 4 positions though so maybe it will have a satz 4? Is the hex value anything to worry about or do I just need to change the werte value? |

Those are Werte Value changes, entered in Hex, so 15 would be Werte 0D.

I have never coded it on my car, so I really do not know.

F30's don't have a JBBF ECU, so I looked in FEM_BODY.
They only thing close is the head light sensitivity setting: RLS_DEF_FLC_SCHWELLWERT_SATZ There are no values like *_SATZ_[123] in FEM_BODY, so I don't think the auto-washer sensitivity is settable this way. |

When I started reading this thread I was "expecting" that people would be trying to make the wiper "less" sensitive - not more.
I always keep mine set at the lowest point on the dial - but even then it activates more frequetly that I would like. Perhaps the difference is due to the fact that I use a rain treatment on my windscreen. I have for years and actually seldom need to use the wipers in my 540 because the water beads up and blows off at speeds above 20mph. Even below that they water beads and you simply look between the water drops. So on the new 328T (with the windscreen treated) I find the auto wiper comes on too soon and is too frequent. Not sure if you want to try that - but it might be one way to address your concern about not being able to see at times. Cheers Jim Cash |

Yeah, I actually agree with Jim here. Maybe there was a software update or something? I have a November 2014 build vehicle and I have to keep mine no higher than 2/4 sensitivity. Any higher and it reacts way more often than necessary... Wish I could share some of my wiper sensitivity with you guys lol.

This is just based on observation and I didn't RTFM on this particular feature but are the wipers sync'd in some way with throttle? When I have the auto wipers on, regardless of how hard it's raining, the wipers seem to speed up or slow down relative to how fast the car is moving. Perhaps this is just the sensor sensing more obstruction on the windshield as the car travels against the rain? Not too sure.

My 2014 has the same problem. The highest sensitivity setting is not fast enough and I usually end up manually adjusting. BMW needs to get on this!

So as Frogman says, there is no JBBF module in the F30, and the line RLS_FLC_SCHWELLWERT_SATZ does not exist in Fembody.
Surely there must be a way of adjusting the sensitivity of the auto wiper settings? Does anyone have any idea where? |
