Lesson learned. I ain't buying a single BMW without extended warranty and third party warranty after that. Stuff eventually breaks and the repair bill ain't negligible. |

Good thing you didn't give up with the dealer.
OP's car was manufactured in September 2014 so I think it's reasonable to say that the timing chain affects pretty much affects all years up to 2015 because I've seen some posts saying some 2014 are safe. |

The ELW cutoff is 2/2015, so BMW says N20/N26 produced 3/2015 and after are OK.

I can finally say that after 1 whole year of re checking everything my car is fixed.
Of course they had to replace the entire timing chain kit, which would have costed me north of $4,000. They eventually charged me for a total of $700. I'm happy my car growls like it did before and not whine like it did all last year. |

This really angers me, wish there was a way to punish dealers who cannot diagnose a known problem for which BMW has issued an extended Warranty.
Every time this happens the owner should get cash towards a new equivalent BMW and this cost is shared by the dealer and BMW. Right now there is no punishment for this type of shoddy diagnosis and therefore no incentive to do it right. Cash to the customer, because they may not want another BMW. Make businesses accountable. |
