The warranty should apply no matter how many owners. It is the free maintenance that does not transfer to the new owner (except for immediate family).

Long time lurker first time poster. I feel I'm qualified to post here.
2013 335i M sport 6speed manual, 176k miles. I have been meaning to get the maintenance history from the dealer. Carfax has a long list of "maintenance" entries. Judging by the frequency they appear to be just oil changes. I'm pleased to see the PO did that frequently. The PPi came back with a clean bill of health. It currently drives flawlessly except the heater takes forever to put out warm air. Seems like a stuck open thermostat. As far as things replaced over the years, I don't know. As far as modifications, stock, except for the lighter weight rims. It seems the PO believed, if you repeatedly/evenly curb rash the rims you could reduce the amount of un-sprung mass. Although the PO was on the right track there are better ways of achieving that. Current ongoing projects, changing all the "lifetime" fluids. Changing the thermostat. |

Hi all, looking at purchasing my first BMW and hoping to get your opinion.
I'm looking at a 2014 328i xdrive wagon with M sport package, with 144,000km (89k miles). I had it brought to a BMW dealership for the pre purchase inspection, and the results were mostly good. Needs front brakes, some light rash on 2 wheels, paint is good, tires good. The only concern is the front struts have leaked some, and will likely need replacing. As it has the adaptive suspension the quote from BMW to fix this was astronomical, but after looking through the forms and exploring aftermarket, replacing with Bilstein B4 doesn't scare me. I want to keep the stock ride height for winter so this seems like the best option. The only thing that is keeping me from buying the car is the timing chain issue. The more I read the more hesitant I become. The dealer listened to the engine and said it sounds great, if there was an issue they'd be able to hear it. What do you guys think? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! |

I've read a bunch about the timing chain issue on here. Ultimately I stopped reading when a poster, much more knowledgeable than I, went on to explain at length that this issue is statistically insignificant. You might disagree if you spent some time reading about the numerous people who have posted about problems. The numbers of members on here, while very helpful, don't represent the amount of cars on the road at large. Not even close.
Even despite the class action going on in California or resolved. I refuse to think it's a global issue. If you found a car and everything checks out mechanically with the build you want and price, go for it, I say. My .02 |

66K miles Blew my chargepipe same day I flashed stage 1. Blew a coolant line going to the expansion tank, only cost $32 for the line from BMW though. Other than that just regular maintenance since I've only had the car for a couple of months. They are pretty amazing for sure |

Model year 2013 328i bought new in November 2018. Has about 110k miles. Just last month there was a drivetrain Malfunction light on and error message. The car wouldn't get into gear and when it did even when you push the gas there's no power. Took it to a dealer nearby and had to replace the cracked cylinder head. Approx $2000. This is in San Diego California. And a new battery ~$500.
When it had about 75k miles had to replace a gasket/valve and don't exactly recall but was over a grand I believe. |

2013 F30 328i. Purchased at 60k miles, currently have 89k on the clock. CarFax states previous owner did all routine BMW servicing. Only thing I've had to replace during my time of ownership is an ABS sensor at 63k and a headlight bulb @ 88k. I do regular oil changes and normal preventative maintanence. Car has been very reliable and I drive it Hard

2013 F30 with 100k miles, bought he car around 30k miles with CPO Warranty, only issues have been a thermostat that was replaced under warranty.
AFIAK, no work has been done on the timing chain, the auto-start-stop was coded out around 40k miles. I am losing around half a gallon of coolant every few months though. I need to investigate a bit more. |

13' 328I X-drive N20 75K so far just regular maintenance although my combox randomly went out this summer for $800. Car is phenomenal driving in the cities and backcountry I'm not really worried about the timing chain.
I plan to do some basic maintenance like spark plugs and vcg then flip it for a B48 or B58 tbh |
