Replacement iDrive head unit not available for 2017 F31
My iDrive failed (continually rebooting) when I had my 320i Touring in for its 20000 mile service at 18 months old. This is still under warranty, but the dealer has told me that the required replacement head unit is on "back order" at BMW and they cannot tell me when my car can be repaired!
This is very frustrating, I have had no working radio, satnav or bluetooth devices for two months now and counting... Has anybody else encountered this supply problem? (The part number is 8791692). Does anybody have any idea what I or the garage should do next? Thanks |

Or pull a HU out of one of their cars in the lot. 2 months without hands free phone capability is unsafe and unacceptable, epically if your local laws prohibit hand held devices while driving.

No prior warning at all. The car had been perfect until its first service. Then when I collected it, I immediately saw that it had this reboot problem. More annoyingly either the garage didn't notice or didn't bother to tell me that this had happened during their service. The car is booked in again at the end of March - the dealer (different one) says that they have fixed this problem before and it will take all day. I don't hold out much hope for this working, but this is the place that sold me the car so that will be when I get really stroppy if they cannot fix it. Loan car is a nice idea, but it would not have the gadgets that I specified on my own car. I am thinking that they could buy the car back from me ... |
