2018 LED headlight thumb scroll adjuster

Hi - I've just picked up a June 2018 335D touring shadow edition. The car has LED headlights as standard but interestingly it also has a headlight level adjuster internally next to the scroll wheel for the dashboard lighting.

I thought the LEDs were auto leveling like previous cars I've owned with xenon's.

Anyone else got this on their 2018 models?

The standard LED lights are just a swap for the old Halogen ones. As such they have inherited the manual height adjustment.

The Adaptive lights are self levelling.

I had LED headlights on an LCI as part of the M-Sport plus package in 2015, before they were fitted as standard and I don't have the adjustment wheel.

Mainooo...As they are self-levelling does your adjustment wheel actually do anything?

Another set of weird changes in build standard then.

That’s the thing, haven’t used the car at night yet so don’t know. It’s definately thrown me off because I just assumed they’d be self levelling. Will have to try it tonight when dark and report back.

My drive is on a slight uphill angle. When I start up the headlights self level and I see the light moving on the house opposite whilst leveling.

Mine look like this video.....

They all do that, even my old E46 with halogens did, it's just going through the full range of motion so that the motors don't seize up.

Can someone share a photo of the level adjuster as it seems daft that self levelling HIDs would have them

Doesn't that wheel adjust the interior light brightness?

My LEDs don’t self level and scroll wheel adjusts the height of the headlamps. I just tried it tonight. Seems odd they did this on a 18 plate but others with LEDs don’t have the scroll wheel and have auto levelling adusjtment.

Educational.....

My Feb 18 built F36 is as Teaston's, std. LED's and no adjuster.

But on ratching around in that area I found the remote tailgate release. I wondered where that was but wasn't sufficiently curious to RTFM. A bit out of place/obscure perhaps. Shame it doesn't also close it.

Can you take a photo of the dial just to see if its the same?

A) I think you're wrong.
B) If you're not wrong your car is fucked and needs BMW to look at it.

Chris - I’m not making it up hence me posting this topic to start with. I’m with you, it sounds absurd. I can’t get a pic tonight but will get one in the morning. In the meantime I’ve found this link which is exactly the same query I have:

Crazy stuff that they're doing it on newer cars.
Is it in the idrive at all if you look at the manual?

I can see no reason why they'd have it. I often want mine tipped UP further but they're set at what is right not what I want

Mainoooo, do you have High Beam Assist? I have this with standard LED headlights and no wheel to self adjust they auto level.

Just wondering if yours don’t self level due to having no High Beam Assist this manual levelling

There are some funny recent 335d builds out there. I’ve seen some M Sport and Shadows fitted with the steering wheel from the old Luxury model rather than the M Sport one.
