N55 FMIC Upgrade

Hi everybody, I was looking into upgrading my stock intercooler to either the VRSF 5” HD or the VRSF 6” Race in my ‘14 435xi. I am currently on a stage 2 mhd tune with a catless downpipe and chargepipe (experiencing bad heat soak after spirited driving).

VRSF labels the 5” up to 600whp and the 6” up to 800whp. I am not planning on upgrading the turbo, therefore the 5” seems fit for me. However, I have seen others saying that the 5” is not enough for aggressive stage 2 driving while others mention that the 6” is too much for stock turbo causing turbo lag.

Any pointers on what to choose?

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I feel like the HP rating is a bit confusing. They both say they would support stage 2 based on the HP rating but i’ve seen the posts saying that the 6.5” is the better one.

Anyone got some good technical data or anecdotal information?

The best performing intercooler is the 7" race version from VRSF or MAD. There is no turbo lag with either. Theres no reason to go with a smaller option.

This is the answer. I ran the 5'' HD for a couple years and eventually went with the race. Big difference. The 5'' is fine for about 5 seconds of WOT but then it can't really keep up.

Here's a log with the race from 0-150 mph: https://datazap.me/u/thejeremyman9/d...0&data=4-10-17

As you can see, zero increase in IATs

As mentioned above, for the best result, get the race intercooler instead.

I'd go with the MAD Race

MAD race or vrsf race.. MAD is much more active here if you should have an issue.
