Like you, read LOTS of threads.... came away confused. NKG are fine. Am still using virtually new BMW here, yet next change will be NKG and gapped around 22.

Are you talking about going with the NGK 5992 or the 97506?

I went straight to the dealer and asked for M4 spark plugs. They're the same part number as M2 and M3 They were like $112 for the set. I ran the same plugs on my N20 for over 1 year and they worked perfectly. On a tuned car you can really notice the smoother power band. No more hesitation or dead spots on acceleration.

i think the later... i think. Look, just get plugs, install, and enjoy. How much pressure and E85 / meth you pushing? Seems that guys pushing SERIOUS stuff get into spark too.
Am right now using the M2 plugs, seems fine to me as am not racing her and she runs nice and cool even here in Florida. Make sure you have a nice BIG IC too of course. BTW, nice cat and almost got that one. Decided on the Fabspeed HJC catted and should be here soon. Did you do the oil cooler mod?

Im just on Map 2 so nothing serious just have never gapped plugs/ will probably have the shop install the plugs so I want to make sure to get them right before I put them in. Ive been loving the Cat although I wish I went with the FabSpeed, I haven't had a CEL yet but i have to pass emissions soon so i should've just spent the extra to get the FabSpeed to have that piece of mind. Havent done the oil cooler mod, didn't see that one around, I don't push it hard, just zip around town here and there.

As i said previously, after reading MANY sprark plug threads it seems only the guys pushing SERIOUS power need to then get plugs done (other than stock). JMHO YMMV Also do the oil cooler mod if you want to add in helping to keep temps down a bit (during normal driver and a bit of pushing here and there.... yet tracking is what it is temp-wise so BIG IC, etc helps). Again, JMHO. PS TRIPLE88: Oil cooler mod is by AD Engineering www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224062 Preferred it over the always-open Burger as AD Engineering unit stays closed until around 95C and not just fully open all the time like the Burger. As you're in Chicago, you prob don't need it as here in HOT FL.... summers are brutal.

I installed NGK 5992s less than 1k miles ago. Checked them today after the car started acting funny Sunday. Long story short, they were all loose. I torqued them at install to 23Nm. Is this just an NGK thing? Huge pain in the ass if they need tightening that often.

Quick question.
Can I run S55 plugs (RB ZMR5TPP330) in a stock N55? Reason why I am asking is because they are 5.21 USD at FCP Euro, that's nearly 50% less than stock ZR5TPP33S plugs which are 9.89 USD. I do plan on adding a JB4 soon, but I doubt that will require more than stock plugs. |

Probably right, agreed. Seems to me the only guys with 'real-world' spark plug problems are those pushing 20+PSI ... those seeking around 500HP or higher.

FWIW
"NOTE: S55 OEM plugs are highly prone to cracking even on stock vehicles. Some have used them in the past on their N55 motors without realizing the heat range is identical and they're in fact of worse quality than N55 OEM plugs. We don't suggest using the S55 OEM plugs when tuning your motors and the NGK SILZKBR8D8S (97506) have been found to be far better. " https://bootmod3.atlassian.net/wiki/...+and+which+gap

Well to be honest. MHD recommends stock plugs and gap. Even for me and I'm running my 435i with MHD Stage 2+ 95 oct tune. All though I did replace my plugs with the NGK 97506 1 step colder plugs, which I believe are the oem N20 plugs. They were pre-gapped to about .030 so I left it at that and it's been running fine. MHD just posted their m135i build mod list and they also used the NGK 97506 plugs.
