Trans Oil Change Question

Fellers and Fellettes!

I got a quick question. I just swapped my transmission oil and pan using the kit from FCP Euro. I must have watched a million tutorials, from FCP's to the most amateur videos on YouTube. In every video single video, when the fill plug is removed, little to no oil comes out. When I removed my fill plug, massive amounts of oil came out. The car was purchased pre owned so I can't say whether or not this service was done in the past, but I don't think it has since the pan was original and nothing seems to have been disturbed. Is it possible that the fluid was overfilled from factory? I'm talking a lot of fluid came out. It literally looked like I removed the drain plug. I took a sample to send to Blackstone and there was little clutch material on the pan magnets so it seems like the transmission is doing well. Let me know what you guys think…

Was that vehicle running when you removed the fill plug?

Typically you fill the transmission while it is running, up to the fill plug level. I'm pretty sure when the engine isn't running there is excess oil that comes down to the pan.

No, the initial drain and fill has to be done when the transmission is cold. The second fill has to be done with the transmission temp between 40-50 Celsius.

An overfill at some point. I wouldn't worry about it. Overfill is better than less.

That was kind of my thought process as well. The transmission seems to have smoothed out a bit after the swap. My 1st to 2nd has been a little laggy and sluggish, but seems to be getting better now with the new pan/filter and fresh fluid. Still need to get some miles in before I can say for certain. Next up, rear diff fluid swap

Do you have any sound changes/whine after changing the fluid? I am planning to change mine pretty soon but was worried about the noises people were complaining about.

I had some whine from the transmission before I did the service and it seems to have all but gone now. I will report back after a few days of driving with more details.

Good news. I feel like my transmission fluid was way overfilled. I get that more is better than being short fluid, but it can't be good either.

How much bottles of the trans fluid did you use up? The last time I did my trans fluid service I probably had 3 full 1 (1/2) of the bottles left

I used about 5 1/2 of the 7 bottles that came with the kit from FCP Euro. This ensured while the transmission temperature was about 44 Celsius, the fill plug was evacuating a slow drip. I then torqued the fill bolt per spec.
