Ohlins Road & Track Suspension Deep Dive!
Thanks to kreuz for letting me borrow the Ohlins Road & Track dampers off of his F32 435i so I could compare them with the F8x Ohlins Road & Track kit! Also, big thanks to Fat Cat Motorsports for dynoing the dampers for us!
I recently did a deep dive on the Ohlins R&T kit for the M2/3/4, and that got me wondering, "What's the difference between the M2/3/4 and regular 2/3/4 kits?" Below you'll see the physical differences between the struts/dampers, and also dynos of the F2x/F3x kit and how that compares to the way Ohlins tuned their F8x kit. Quote:

Interesting to know. The fact that the two are modular would make sense from a profit for Ohlins stand point. Does the dyno make sense for the F8X to be what it is because of the stiffer bushings, wider tires, etc?
Also did you have to practice saying F3 / F4 X and F8X a lot of times. lol

popcorn. i almost pulled the trigger on a set of mcs 1 ways. a guy i used to go to the track with is an mcs dealer and was going to see if i could get them for cost or slightly more but i was reeled into reality, i have a set of 2 year old twins, if i make it to the track 4 or 5 times a year i will be lucky. pre kids in my 135 i would do 10-12 events a year.

No doubt, it's challenging to get track time in, when there are young kids in the mix. The kids will grow up and the suspension wars will still be happening so all is not lost. |

4-5x a year is worth the cost coilovers.

Ohlins are available for xdrive. MCS doesn't specify on their site but from talking to ppl who use MCS, they can be made to work with many platforms
EDIT on Ohlins: I made a mistake, Ohlins are not available for xDrive, only RWD. Sorry about that. EDIT on MCS: did a bit more digging and i was told that the remote systems made by MCS will fit the xDrive models. The non-remote systems will not work with the xDrive systems due to the interference with the axle, same issue as the Ohlins. Last edited by brigade24; 04-22-2021 at 02:49 PM.. Additionally you'd need to move to a RWD-like end link arrangement since the brackets are mounted the same orientation on both struts.

clearing the axle boot is really the main challenge. And would attempting to make them fit compromise ride at that point which would defeat the purpose of putting them in to begin with? Fat Cat billy's may be a better option in that case. |
