We all like to be different. That's why.
We should just do a swap.

Now there's an idea. I wonder if I can fit them in my carry on when I visit next!!

I believe you have already seen some similar reports posted in this forum, but let me also share my experience just for your reference.

< BMW PART NUMBER - EU VERSION >
63217426055 - Rear light in the side panel, left
63217426056 - Rear light in the side panel, right
63217426051 - Rear light in trunk lid, left
63217426052 - Rear light in trunk lid, right

< RETROFITTING >
The outer lights are literally plug ’n play. No need to swap the connector pins like F30/F31.
As for the inner lights, you need to use a retrofit harness to convert the connectors and to add extra signal lines for blinkers.

< CONNECTING TO REM >
Disconnect the connector A174*13B from REM and insert the terminal pins of new cables into the pin sockets as follows;

- Cable from the left light to PIN No.5
- Cable from the right light to PIN No.13

< RETROFIT CODING >
Next up is… coding!
I added HO-wort HELC (=LCI_REAR_LIGHT) and VO coded the REM to have it transmit indicator signal/power to inner blinkers over new retrofit cables.
I think this way is a lot sexier than tapping the power from outer blinkers.

Very easy, isn’t it? It just took about one hour to get everything done.

ENJOY THE VIDEO!

Hi mate, looks fantastic. I have a 2014 GC which I'm looking to retrofit lights. I have the same harness as you but the original locations already have Pins in I beleive this is 12 and 17. Please can you let me know how to VO code the REM for new locations?
