87k for a "used" M3

I did sit in both a new M3/M4 today - very nice inside and the carbon seats are mega!

Very good time to be the F variant M as I know from personal experience. A hell of a lot of car for what most of us paid / are paying for 330s.

There are around 100 M3/4 either new or nearly new on AT at the moment, they don't appear to be selling I think when you ask for £5000 in and £900 a month for 48 months just to "rent" it it's a tough sell, after spending 50k I'd need to be owning the car, best I've seen is 1k in 1k per month on a base car residual of 30k

Absolutely. When you put it like that - dropping 50k on a car you've got to give back, it just sounds nuts.

They are mostly demo’s and can’t be sold for 3 months or 3k miles that’s probably why....

Part of the ownership proposition for me is enjoying looking at what i have in the garage. I could never do that with the G8* M3/4. It's arguably a fantastic car to drive. But it needs to be more than that to pique the interest of many. I predict it'll receive a fairly early life facelift to something more agreeable.

I think you’ll find other models when released will follow suit with the grill design. Audi went through the same thing when they slapped the huge grill on everything, now though it’s not even noticed.

To me, it's the low residual figure that stands out. There's a lot of cost to absorb in 4-years.

Seen a green M3 reg CV21 on the M56 on Saturday, it's nice but not £1k per month nice.

Lots of discussion and Photoshopped images of 'better' grills presented by the Audi guys. Now the Audi grills are even more dominant and accepted.

It's interesting how many users say the F-series are 'better' looking than the G-series. Wasn't the case when the F-series F30 came along... BMW had messed up. The E90 was the model to keep and give the F30 a miss.

Human nature, we can find it hard to accept change.

Yes that is the issue for me. I don't see how you can justify upping the price by £20k, yet the residual by <£5k.

And looking right now, F80 gen cars coming to end of their contracts are now worth considerably more than MGFVs, so it seems doubly pessimistic to our future residuals so low.

They make them low so you have 'equity' in it at the end for trade in.

Dealer trade in is always less than market value, so its GFV is low so they can still make a profit on it when you chop it back in again.

I'm glad I'm off the PCP treadmill.

I do wonder what will happen to the price of these cars long term. I'm never going to pay 85k but in 3 years time if a decent used one came up at a decent price I might think about it.

Really don't think many will be buying at that price though to generate a used G8x market though!

Indeed Steve. Have been wondering what a 3 and 4 year old low spec, high-ish mileage G80 will cost in a few years. What's your guess?

I'd hope similar to what the F8X prices were - I'd have no problem with paying 35-40k in 3/4 years time.

I'm not surprised they've got a few knocking around.

The looks are going to be Marmite for quite a while yet, BMW has substantially increased the price (as well as the size), and in EVO's most recent review the Quadrifolgio nudges the M3 into 2nd place. Respected the M3; loved the QF.

If I had the money, and it had to be a 4-door performance saloon, that'd be my choice too.
