Lewis Hamilton
Showed this afternoon just how good he is. Don't care what anyone thinks about his personality, behind the wheel he is quite extraordinary. What a race and what a way to do it, on the track, not in the pits.
Hats off to Kimi for racing hard but fair, which is something Verstappen ought to consider. Some might say that this is the edge that's missing from Kimi, but I think Verstappen more than has the natural talent to succeed whilst still being a little more 'sportsmanlike'.

No one else could have won that race - he is the best. Great driving on lap 1 and kept with the Ferrari. For once the Mercedes strategy team made a great call, kept him out and then made sure that Bottas backed up the traffic!!
Another crazy first lap from Vettel - Lewis left him enough space and he should have backed out of it. Max seemed to complain about the penalty - not sure it was a slam dunk - moving to the left and left Bottas no room.... It's a great season and it will go right down to the last race I think.

Little doubt in my mind Hamilton has a distinct edge over Vettel as well; the latter makes far more mistakes and while Lewis wins races when he's not favourite to do so Vettel throws points away. People keep wanting to talk-up the fight for the driver's title but unless Hamilton suffers some mechanical failures I reckon he'll win the championship pretty comfortably. |

Remember he only won the race because Vettel spun, then his servant Bottas held up Kimi. And Merc bending the rules on pretend pit stops.

All though I did not see it, seems Lewis was sublime today. Vettel again when the pressure is greatest seems to struggle.
Going to be an excellent season climax with perhaps the Ferraris now having the master car.

Perhaps. They're certainly more clinical but they're haven't got the fastest car anymore. Kimi's pass on Hamilton was way better than Hamilton's on Kimi. Had Ferrari been as regimental as Merc, then Vettel would have been ahead into the first corner and almost certainly won the race. Of course for that to happen they'd need some to bend over like Bottas does for Hamilton.
Yes. Much prefer a straight fight though. Race was robbed of that today.

Ferrari may have the best car just now, but they certainly don't have best driver, as Vettel shows through all his mistakes.

Hamilton is a great driver but he's lucky to be leading the championship this season. Germany a perfect example. And he benefits from having a pretend equal driver as a team mate. Merc fooling no-one other than perhaps Bottas. He's beyond lucky to be in that car as he never gets close to Hamilton if Hamilton is anything like on his game. Pity Rosberg not still in the car as he'd not have slowed down Kimi like Bottas did. Had Ferrari used team orders then Vettel would almost certainly have won today. But as I said above they don't have a Bottas in their 2nd car.

Bottas had little meaningful impact on Kimi's race, it was Kimi who killed his new tyres trying to keep the gap that did it to himself. And Kimi is the ultimate second driver... how long since he won a race?

Kimi isn't as fast as Vettel but he's no push-over like Bottas. Bottas stayed out just to slow Kimi. Would have been no need for him to push so hard as he was a long way ahead by the time Hamilton left the pits. Not bitter - just saying Hamilton won the race with assistance. He is a petulant little shit though.

Lewis was drove absolutely brilliantly today. I really enjoyed that race.
Proud to have such a top sportsman flying the flag for us. I wouldn't mind Lewis finishing his carer off a Ferrari. Also if he can get his 5th championship this year then his maybe on to at least equal Schumacher's 7 titles imo in the future. |

But I'll say again, that is racing. The field will never be level so whoever wins, does it with assistance. We've seen plenty of races this year where SV and LH have gone toe to toe and its been an equal battle: the points show that. I'm really hoping it does go to the wire and despite Hamilton thinking he's 'bigger than Jesus' and he's a bit of a nob, I'm rooting for him because he's a Brit (if that's still allowed??). Yep, would like to see him at Ferrari at some point...with Seb as #1 team driver |

[QUOTE=73henny;23672941]How was it a straight fight with Vettel at the back?
It was a straight fight, Vettel just ended it early, on the first lap, with a self-inflicted KO, resulting in him being vanquished to the back. Q

As a wheel to wheel racer he's in a different league from Vettel and he also makes far fewer silly mistakes; as others have said, it was Vettel's own fault he ended-up at the back yesterday just as it was his own fault he threw away an easy victory in Germany. You can't afford errors like that when you're competing against a driver of Hamilton's calibre and, barring mechanical failures, he'll have the title sewn-up with a couple of races to go IMO. |

Hamilton really showing how good he is again this season, one of the few drivers on the grid able to get more out of a car than is expected, Alonso, may be the only other at the moment.
I'm loving how both Seb and Ferrari are now being compared to Lewis and Merc as the do good team with a lovely guy as their driver! Ferrari are the original shithouses when it comes to team orders and tactics, Seb is one of the most petulant drivers out there constantly complaining about blue flags, swearing at race directors etc. When it comes to to Teamates, let's not forget that Lewis has only finshed the season once behind his teammate, and they have all been or became world champions barring Bottas. Ferrari have always had "Number 2" drivers and Seb's teammates have usually been put in place to keep him happy, rather than offer competition. That being said I'm glad the season is more exciting than it looked at one point, still hoping they get less aero and more fuel for future seasons so we can see proper racing again! |
