Is it possible to improve the sound of a 320D?

I spent a few hundred on a new exhaust for my car but it hasn't made any difference to the sound. Seems like it was entirely a cosmetic upgrade.

I'm wondering if there is any way to make the 320D sound nicer, or should I simply give up my pursuit of a better sounding car?

you can make it louder, deeper, burblier, but to me these 4-cyl bmw's just don't sound very good, i have one myself.

if you really want to do something more, we'd need to know what you have, what your limitations are and how much more you want to spend. personally, i'd do the "give up pursuit" option

you may post future questions related to diesel and/or 4-cyl in these subforums.

downpipe+ECU tune, or just leave the car alone until you can buy a 6 cylinder.

Can the 430D yield a decent sound?

I think yes. Diesel exhausts don't really sound much different unless you install a downpipe and even a full exhaust system though.

the 430d is a 6-cyl, though, so it'll sound better. boggles me why bmw chooses what appears to be the 4-cyl muffler on it, smh
