Excellent purchase. Your GTI was very sexy too. If I wasn't in a 3-series, I think the GTI is what I would be driving. It's such a fun and nice all around car.

OP - beautiful car. I'm actually cross-shopping new GTI vs used 340 (probably an Autobahn DSG vs 340ix w/ M-Sport and adaptive suspension). Would you mind giving your general impressions - driving, comfort, convenience, etc.? thanks

I'm just about to trade in my MK6 GTI for a F30 330i this weekend, 340i's are a little out of my budget but OP you have a great looking car. Congratsr!

Seems like a great monthly payment for such a nice car. How does the lease compare to a purchase? More car for your monthly payment? I drive at least 20k miles a year so not sure I could ever get into a lease?

The 340 is more of a car in every aspect, but the GTI certainly feels quicker and/or more exciting in some aspects because it's so light and nimble. The adaptive suspension on the 340 is a must, it definitely helps bring the car more in line with the sportier GTI setup. There's also something to be said about buying a new car, especially when you can get into a well-equipped GTI for under 30k. However, I ran into a problem with putting the power down in FWD. I love to launch my cars (tons of red lights in NJ) and it sucks spinning through first and second gear. The 340 (particularly with xdrive) squats and goes. I recently hit sub 4 second numbers with a tune. Also, why not a golf R? That's the perfect middle ground between your two options above. Plus they hold their value extremely well. The 340 and GTI are going to depreciate substantially. |

And basically, yes. I'm driving a $60k+ car for under $400 a month. Finance payments on same would be substantially more. I also bore rather quickly and look forward to changing vehicles every couple years. |

Yea, I didn't understand that comment either. The 4 series is a completely different body style and I can't ascertain any differences in the rest of the package.

he claimed that he negotiated for months, which shows how low demand that car was new compared to an identical car in Alpine white for $550 less...... |

I think a lot of this has been going around. I was just myself looking for a bridge car to get me until the new M3 Pure comes out and I was shopping between an STI, golf R and an 18 340i. STI was no good and the golf R was a lot of fun but cramped and felt on the slow side due to how linear the power delivery is but overall it's definitely a strong contender if it fits your budget. I only wanted a 6MT so the choice is very limited out there in cars period anymore. I liked the golf R and would have went with it but my dealer ended up finding a 2018 340i black 6mt with all the m packages and premium everything still sitting on a dealer lot on the west coast. I mean it's March of 2019 so how is that car still there... it's crazy how the last model year before a re-design will just sit and they have to discount them so heavily. They ended up taking $13k off for me and lost money on it after bringing it in. If I took the identical car they had on the lot equipped with the same packages and only difference it was AT they would have discounted even more.

Intriguing. I daily a mk5 GTI and the GF has a 2012 328i, and I have nothing kind to say about the 328i except it's a well proportioned car and gets good gas mileage.

Very nice! That's exactly how I might option a car. Perfect color and good features. Would be hard to do without heated everything, blind spot monitor, and top and side view cameras now that I've had them for awhile. Missing sports seats and adaptive suspension though. I'm guessing those are pretty fantastic upgrades...
