Yes, I had a coolant warning on my car around the 6k mark. I refilled it and so far no problems. Reading more into the forums, it seems to be a very very common problem with the B58's.

Low coolant 2 months in. Topped it off with no issues for 7 months. Then I had a puddle of coolant below my car. Took it in and the radiator had a leak it was split at a seam.

Oh man, I just took deliver of a 2017 340ix just on Labor Day. I will have to keep an eye out on the coolant level. Hope they had a running fix for cars later in production.
Are you guys adding BMW coolant or just distilled water or a mix? Thanks. |

I keep a jug of BMW coolant and quart of oil in the garage for topping up. TBH they're almost never needed and tend to sit for years gathering dust. |

Just a note, previous BMWs have all required the blue coolant from BMW. I?m not sure if there is an appropriate one you can get at auto parts stores, but coolant is cheap and you don?t need much so I?d recommend buying the BMW stuff if you can. Or just use distilled water.
I?m usually the type of person to advocate for third party parts when it?s safe, but I don?t think it?s worth it for the coolant based on all the warnings and sensitive cooling parts that BMW is known to make. |

Guys,
Thanks so much for all your replies! I am heading into the dealer to have a 4 wheel alignment done on my new car. It tracks straight but wheel wasn't centered from the factory. But I will pick up a gallon of the official stuff to have on hand. I don't want to mix with aftermarket stuff if I can help it. |

when i had a low coolant light on my e90, i just drove up to the service line at the bmw dealer one morning and they filled it up for me, free of charge. pretty cool considering the car was 11 years old and under no kind of warranty, nor did i really have any relationship with that particular dealer. took it there once for a recall on the passenger seat airbag sensor, but they didn't know that.

i would get it filled up at the dealer under warranty if you can. if you buy the coolant yourself then the data doesn't get back to BMW engineers. the more people that bring it in, the higher up it will go on their list of things to investigate.
