Extreme brake dust???

Got a new set of front brake pads and rotors installed recently, and I've been getting a crazy amount of brake dust... Here's what my front wheels look like

Here's what my back wheels look like for contrast

Is this something that could go away once the new pads get broken in or something? or were they just installed wrong and I should go back to get them fixed? Thanks for any help in advance!

From my experience that is normal. New pads will create more dust as they are breaking in. I wouldn't worry about it

My 2 rear wheels look like your front wheels within 3 to 4 weeks after being washed, I haven't replaced the rear pads or rotor's yet because it doesn't bug me as much it should and mainly because I haven't gotten around to it yet.

There are many pads which do not produce as much dust. BMW OEM pads produce a very noticeable, aggressive initial bite. Hence the dust.

Armor all outlast brake dust repellent. Have great results with it. Can wipe off the dust with one swipe of a paper shop towel. Vid shows more normal street/track compound.

These are soft high dust HAWK competition pads about 2 weeks worth of dust. A single wipe around the rim with a dry shop towel. Tires are NITTO NT555R 100 tread ware.

X2, with the msport brakes i find both the front and rear wheels are equally covered in brake dust, insanely fast, within 2-3 days of washing.

usually your front brakes do more braking than your rears it's 60/40 split. Do you know what kind of pads they used? if you went with the cheapest option odds are they didn't use ceramic (which cuts down on brake dust). So check your receipt and see what kind of brakes you had put on the car

Ive had five prior BMWs and all had excessive brake dust.

Having said that, I recently acquired a 2019 440i and to my very pleasant surprise the thing produces almost NO brake dust. BMW clearly changed the pad compound recently.
