By way of a contrast, the Oppo Find X phone was released not long ago and has been sighted as having major flaws especially as it's a $1,000 phone, but it's not big news because it's not Apple. I guess haters will hate, and fanboys will... well whatever it is fanboys do. Main thing is everyone has a choice

This is far too sensible. Surely the main objective is to beat down what you don't have

Well I got sucked into a new iPhone! I say sucked my iphone 7’s 2 years old and we had moved house since then and EE’s phone coverage was rubbish in our house so a network provider move was on the cards anyway.
Went for an iPhone Xs max and must say I’m happy with it love the big screen which is great for emails web browsing etc I tried my brother’s Samsung S9 for a few days before I pushed the button on another iPhone but couldn’t get on with it... |

So having an iPhone 6 (c. 2014) and now held in my hand the iPhone XS and IPhone XR I’m probably staying put. The new phones, while unquestionably faster and more capable, are just too damn bulky! They’re bricks for Christ sake. When are Apple going to slim these things down - they need to go on a proper diet - too fat (thick) and too heavy in comparison. I don’t mind a bigger phone in terms of a flat surface so the screen can be bigger, but they’re damn heavy compared to the 6 or iPhone 7. In principle I don’t even mind the price - but ive decided not to pay more (compared to £649 I paid for the 6) for something I think they’re capable of fitting into a lighter/thinner shell! Here’s to 2019!

Don't be fooled by claims of better battery life either - the higher-res screens are more power hungry so they are really at best keeping up with the battery life of older models, which in some ways is still an achievement. Do be prepared to accept in some ways a worse UI due to the loss of the home button with a consequent reliance on gestures instead. Face ID will get an upgrade in 2019 so if you don't swing to Android, wait till the 2019 models. |

I have a 7 for work and Xs max personal phone and I thought I wouldn’t get on with the size or new controls but it’s second nature now and find it works really well. |

A lot will depend on usage etc of course and the comparison between 7 and XS Max isn't valid. They're great phones though, but I'll stick with my 8+ for at least a year longer. |
