With the official announcement from BMW of the New Navigation Professional and iDrive/ConnectedDrive, many of you have inquired when the technology (both a software and hardware [cpu, graphics processor, hard drive] upgrade) would be implemented on the various models.

Below is the general scheduled rollout for the new navigation and iDrive. These dates do not apply to the new iDrive Touch system, which will have a separate rollout and application schedule. Certain markets will have different rollout dates, but this is the expected date for the U.S. market.

For those curious, the list of hardware upgrades (vs. the current) include:
  • Intel processor 1.3Ghz vs Renesas 600Mhz
  • 1Gb RAM vs 512Mb
  • 8Gb flash vs 512Mb
  • Nvidia graphics vs Fujitsu
  • 200GB hard drive vs 80Gb

For full details of the new BMW Navigational Professional and iDrive ConnectedDrive (including iDrive touch, voice dictation, in-car LTE, and more see http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=716464

Many thanks for this Jason. Do you know if this information is specific to the US, or does it apply globally?

In other words, are there differing rollout schedules across differing regions?

I'm fairly sure that this applies globally.

Best regards,
south

Not that it matters to Teefaf particularly but I thought I read somewhere that MY13 changes were starting a couple of month's later on BMWs manufactured in South Africa. That might apply to rollout of the updated navigation system too?

+1 Any updates to standard iDrive (without Navi)? Let's say I order F30 for November/December production.

Thank you for your response, Southlight. I was at my dealer today amending my order for a UK 320i xDrive MSport, and asked him about the upgraded Nav Pro system. He was under the impression it was being rolled out across all models (including F30) from July production, but searched his BMW-supplied info to see if he could find anything to the contrary, as I'd told him about the roll-out info I'd read here.

He couldn't find anything corresponding with the info you have provided, but I still trust you over him!

It's a pain, because I would happily delay my order for the new system, but he reckons a November build wouldn't reach me until January, and the whole point of the xDrive is to cover the winter. So it looks like I'll be stuck with the old system.

It would probably be less expensive to just buy a post-Nov '13 model instead of retrofitting.

Big Question here...

So my lease is up 12/12/12 (yeah, pretty cool I guess so I will probably be going in next week to place teh order which will bge put in the late September order slots.

If my car won't be "completed" until late November, what are the chances of me getting the new iDrive & nav?

Thsi is important enough that I would extend my lease a month or two in order to get the new hardware & software.
