I have Adaptive with 19" run flats. It is very good but I do tend to leave it in the default Comfort position. I only flick to Sport/Sport + when I want to press on but that is usually for the more responsive gear changes & keeping it more in the power band. I rarely pick it because I want/need to firm up the suspension. Adaptive supposedly learns how you are driving so if you are pressing on it will hold the car more neutral in a corner even in Comfort mode whilst being more supple when you are driving in town over speed bumps etc.
I've not driven a GT without it (but I have had plenty of BMWs without it). I suspect no M Sport suspension would give too much wallow for my taste and M Sport Suspension may give a firmer though still acceptable ride compared with than how mine is in Comfort. I would say that Adaptive gives you the best of both worlds. All recent 3/5/5GT BMW's I've had with M Sport suspension have never felt too harsh in the way they did years ago. Also the overall wheel dimensions are larger than earlier models so where a 19" on rft made you think crash, bang, crack these days, given the overall wheel diameter is larger, the tyre profile is not that low - so 255/40/19 rather than 255/35/19 on the previous generation. Also rft tyres have greatly improved and are more supple now. The ride height is interesting - on the saloon the xDrive M Sport comes under a lot of criticism as there is quite a gap in the wheel arch. I really don't notice this or think we have this issue (purely aesthetic) on the GT - it certainly sits lower than the saloon even though xDrive still prevents the suspension sitting 10mm lower... So taking all this into account, would I order Adaptive again - yes. But is there something better to spend the money on - almost certainly! You won't be disappointed either way as you engage Launch Control and leave everything behind at the traffic lights whether in the wet or dry. |

I think we all know you will add the 19" wheels too!! It's the only thing missing from your spec - then you know there will be no regrets - although it is subjective I really can't see that ride would be an issue for you - especially now you've picked Adaptive... I had an M Sport 5GT on 20" 275/35s and that was fine... By the time you factor in your 20%+ discount you won't notice it...

Ha, I think you are probably right .
I currently drive a 350d eclass on 17" wheels that is a particularly smooth drive. I do a lot of miles and there are lots of speed humps around so a bit nervous. Cost wise it would be a matter of adding the m sport plus package as I already added the other elements so not that much more expensive. Just the ride and tyre durability is the issue. |

However, if you don't mind sacrificing a bit of comfort for great looks then the 19s are a no brainer.
