***DIY: bootmod3 OBD Agent build with RPi 3 B

What device are you using to flash? I just flashed yesterday with no problem but I was USB tethered, not WiFi.

I have the usb tethered WIFI device... worked fine until the app suggested an over the air update. Going to format the card and update the firmware on a PC...

iOS

So I flashed the Sd card with the same firmware on their website and it works fine. But the app will suggest a firmware update still. Even though it's updated. If I select update from the app iOS app it will not format the sd card correctly .... so I just ignored it

When you guys say USB tethering, does that meaning connecting a USB to the port next to the ethernet and the other end (lightning cable) to your iPhone?

Ios13.2 should resolve hotspot issues. It fixed all my song and playlist selection problems. Ptf also confirmed this.

13.2 on its own didn’t fix the hotspot for me. Its the new update ptf released for the agent wifi box that fixed it but I think you also need 13.2, so both

Reflashed my SD card with the latest update.

Connects instantly to my iPhone X now with iOS13.2

I wonder why the SD card needs to be removed and flashed instead of just pushing the update through the app.

They said they had to re-write the image file from the ground up because of the way apple has changed the wi-fi handshake on connection.

That does not sound right as I doubt PTF is requiring those with "genuine" OBD agents to re-flash their SD cards - or are they? I have been able to successfully update my DIY agent each time using the standard over the air method, including the latest agent update.

Same here. Fortunately, it's not "too" bad. Just 2 10mm nuts. The actual flashing of the SD card will take longer but still much more inconvenient than updating through the app.

I have an obd2 bluetooth exhaust. The wiring for that competes for space under there. Sucked to get it tucked up nicely.

Well I stand corrected. I don't use WiFi for my setup (USB only) so my agent has been working/updating fine, even on iOS 13. Flashing the SD card is not hard - I did it multiple times during this DIY project (as I am sure most of us DIY'ers have done). But for those who bought the agent from PTF who wanted a simple PnP solution, having to flash the SD card could be a bit of a PITA for those who are technically challenged....

Thank you for this awesome DIY man.

I read through the first 12 pages, but then had to skim the rest. I just got my BM3 activation key and have a dumb question. Obviously, this allows you to flash new maps/setting changes and all that. But, would there be any issues with me setting this OBD agent up > activating my VIN/car > running my FIRST DME unlock and flash? Or is it recommended to go through the computer for the first time?

Just thought I'd update with an answer to my question - I asked BM3 on the FB group and they confirmed that everything can be done via the OBD agent. Computer is not necessary. Sweet!
