3000 miles, VRSF catted DP, ER catless DP, JB4, and recently BM3

Hi all. Just logging my experience with these mods on a 2016 340i, hopefully someone will it helpful information. I’ll list in the order I got these products. No products were dyno’d.

JB4 with BT connection

Installation - it’s the easiest mod for that much gain, there’s 3 connections 2 under the hood and 1 in the cabin.

User experience
The good
- the BT interface is easy to navigate
- map switching is on the fly
- meters are nice to look at
- the gains are real
- being able to read and delete codes
I never mess with it too much and I settle with map 1

The not so good
- power delivery is not as smooth as I’d like it to be
- some times at WOT it hesitates at pass 5k rpm
- always get the code “102001 Air mass, plausibility -- Tuner code, ignore” after I installed the AFe intake
- throws codes more than I’d like

AFe Magnum Force intake

Installation - easy, I don’t know what to say about it

User experience
The good
- sounds better
- looks OEM under the hood
- it’s a good addition to the JB4

There’s nothing I don’t like about.
11/05/19 update - I was at Sonoma Raceway for a HPDE day couple weeks. Looks like the the intake box warped on around the edges due to the heat from the track runs.

VRSF Catted downpipe
10/21/19 Update - the vendor forwarded my concerns to VRSF and they promptly got back to me and offered to replace this my unit with their revised version once it’s release. A+ for customer service, it’s good to know VRSF listens to the end users and revise their products! That’s a business I can support.

Installation - could be a lot easier with brackets, couldn’t get mine to line up correctly

User experience
The good
- sounds nice
- noticeable gains
- VRSF customer service

The not good
- installation was not a good experience, maybe because I got a bad unit but I couldn’t get the entire exhaust system aligned
- slight exhaust drone
- no mounting bracket

Evolution Racewerks catless downpipe - bought this to replace the VRSF downpipe

Installation - I’d pay more just for the brackets, install was easy

User experience
The good
- noticeable gains
- cold start is loud
- gets the exhaust note to my liking
- no drone

The bad
- the fumes!! I can’t drive with my windows down any more, come on people stop using catless downpipes, I’m sure we’re killing babies. I reinstalled OEM downpipe when I replaced the JB4 with the BM3

Bootmod3 OTS map 1, would had gotten this first if I didn’t have the JB4 from my previous 330i wagon

Installation - easy but could get confusing for the computer challenged, spent the extra money to get a battery charger for smooth install

User experience
The good
- smooth power delivery
- calibrates Sport Mode meters but I don’t know how accurate it is as I hit 440hp according to it lol
- has custom map options at extras cost
- seem to update OTS maps frequently

Only have under 100 miles experience, will update.

I’m debating on trying another catted downpipe but can’t find any BM3 dynos with a catted DP.

This is my thread which contains dyno results with a Catted DP.
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1631003

I'm happy with the BCS DP.
100 cell and minimal smell only when first started.
Can't tell from the photo but it has a bracket and fitment was good.

Thanks for your link, I think your results confirm that adding a downpipe to a flash tune only offer minimal gains, you only gained 10hp BUT I’m sure the throttle response is a lot better which I’d pay for but not at over $900.

Sup mike@xph, wanna give me a super hook up on the AFe catted downpipe?
