Just moved to SD - Need to borrow or buy a stock intake box

Hey everyone,

Thank you in advance for any help. I just drove into San Diego and am going through registration and got the rude awakening that I'm going to need to swap some of my parts to pass smog. I got a BMS intake, a charge pipe, and a JB4. All 3 of them were noticed when I got the inspection (I turned off the JB4 but was ignorant to the visual inspection). The jb4 is no trouble to remove, but the stock charge pipe was blown and the car came with the BMS intake. I cant be the only one with a modified F30 in SD and I'm sure someone has an an airbox sitting in their closet for smog swaps. I was hoping to pay to borrow one, or buy one if needed. Any suggestions on where to start? I also REALLY don't want to instal a plastic charge pipe. Do you think that most places will notice if the other components are stock? Thanks for any and all help!

My friends CP are matte black without any branded logo and it just went through smog a couple month ago. Probably your will be ok but that aftermarket intake will be very visible.

CP doesn't affect emissions, it's essentially the stock part but made in a differential material. Your issue lies within the Jb4 and intake. If the JB4 is off then your main concern is the intake.

Thanks for the replys! I think I'm going to take of the JB4 and charge pipe and send it through emissions again before doing anything with the CP. Thanks!

I have my stock intake in a box shoved in my closet but its for the B58. Would've lent it to you if it fit.

The issue is the intake, removing the chargepipe will be a hassle and won't benefit you.

Not sure if you have resolved this already, I am located in Sabre Springs 92128 zip code. I have a heavily modified 435i and have a stock intake laying around if your still interested. I can let you use it to pass smog. I am pretty sure all n55 motors share the same air intake, keep in mind I have a 435i(f32) but I do not believe that will be an issue installing on an F30.
