APPLE Car play prep??

Hi guys, I'm collecting a 69 plate 440i GC next week and I want ACP (Apple car play preparation) fitted, the dealership say it's not possible? I was pushing them to do this for free as I believe it now comes as standard on late model f36's and it's just a software update.

I decoded the VIN and it shows that the option 6AK "Connecteddrive Services" is fitted.

Question is, am I right? Is it just a SW update and what, if anything else do I have to do / download / update before this will work.

I thought it was as simple as going to the store in idrive and downloading it?

BMW want £265 in the connected store online for ACP, so I've asked the dealer to check again and also to beat that price.

It's entirely possible for the dealer to purchase an FSC code to enable CarPlay, however it does cost them money, it's not a freebie they can just give out without eating into their margins. You'd be better off trying to negotiate equivalent value off of services with the dealer (a complimentary service for instance) and just buy the CarPlay through connected drive.

If you've got the VIN then you should be able to check that it has the prerequisite options to enable it.

I believe the option that you need is WiFi, but I could be wrong.

Do you have the option 6NW?

-Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging.

Is CarPlay available for your vehicle in the connected drive store?

Ok thanks, so what are the perquisite options?

I thought it was just the connected drive?

Prerequisites for Apple Carplay are: 6CP, 6NW or the Wifi hotspot prep - basically any option that would mean the wifi antenna is installed.

Installing the antenna is an easy job but if not done from the factory, BMW won't allow you to order Carplay from the Connected Drive store.

I don't have wireless charging I think.

According to VIN decoder I have:

6AE Teleservices Teleservices
6AK Connecteddrive Services Connecteddrive Services
6AM Real Time Traffic Information Real Time Traffic Information
6AP Remote Services Remote Services
6NH Hands-free Facility W. Usb Interface

There but must be an RJ45 Connector or similar OBD? That can connect out to the internet at the dealership that they can hook up and download from?

As Wibbles has said, you'll need to retrofit the WiFi antenna and purchase CarPlay through a third party.

Considering how the UK government is saying they are going to change the law on hands free use, so that even touching the phone will become an offence.
I would have thought there would be a market for retro fit of car play , into any BMW.
I for one would be interested.

I've added a WiFi aerial (£10 and incredibly easy to fit) and there are places online where you can buy an update which plugs into the USB drive and updates the idrive. Cost me £40 total to add Apple CarPlay

Just be careful that any carplay activation has a factory restore function or there will be issues if the dealer updates the car.
